Creamier @ Toa Payoh Lorong 1 – The Best Waffles in Singapore!

Did I just give it all away with such a subject line to thisĀ post? šŸ™‚

Toa Payoh Lorong 1 aroundĀ the Braddell MRT Station brings back some fond memories of the past. The student care centre atĀ which I had worked as a teacher during my university daysĀ used to be located here before it moved to Toa Payoh Central so the surroundings of this quiet neighbourhood still looked somewhatĀ familiar though I no longer come by that often. Nothing much has changed.

The husband and I came by for lunch at Hup Chong Hakka Yong Dou Foo at Blk 116 which serves up wickedly good deep-fried (handmade) meatballs, wantons and ngoh hiangs. After our meal, we walked towards the food centre at Blk 127 in search of desserts.

Nestled within anĀ unassuming suburbanĀ areaĀ of one of Singapore’s oldest housing estates is Creamier, an ice cream parlour and dessert house with a modest outfit and a homely vibe.

Upon entering the shop, we got a whiff of waffles in the air. Truly enticing. The number of selections of ice cream flavours made itĀ even moreĀ challenging for us as we wanted to try almost everything. One look around the tables, we noticed there was a waffle on every table so we agreedĀ we should just settle for waffles with two scoops of ice cream since we already had a heavy lunch prior to this.

Order at the counter and make payment, you’d be given a number cup thereafter as above. Just put it somewhere visible so the service staff can locate you.

Creamier may be a small establishment but it still requires a group of young ladies to work behind the scenes. Seeing every piece of waffle coming out from the waffle iron was a joy! I told the husband jokingly, I’d like a job like that, lol.

And if you need iced water or sugar syrup, this little cart is just behind the wall, next to the counter.

Green Tea Latte

Ice MatchaĀ Latte $5.50

We got an Ice Matcha Latte to share which wasn’t sweetened at all so you’d need to add syrup to your desired level of sweetness. We didn’t do that as we preferred to have it with no sugar. The latte might look rich and foamy but taste wise, it was diluted and weak. Not much kick in this. A little disappointing.

Creamier Sea Salt Gula Melaka and Roasted Pistachio ice cream with waffles

Waffles with Sea Salt Gula Melaka (top scoop) and Roasted Pistachio (bottom scoop) ice cream $11.00

When the made-to-order waffles arrived, we just couldn’t wait to tuck in. Two thick slabs of waffles topped with two huge scoops of ice cream and with chocolate and caramel sauces on the plate, who could resist this delish sight? One bite into the waffle.Ā Our hearts were completely conquered.

We gotĀ that resounding “tat tat” when IĀ used the fork to knockĀ against the waffle. Freshness and crispiness, evident. Its insides were also soft and fluffy, light and porous. Good enough to enjoy, solo.

The ice creams were the icing on the cake. And it seemed like we picked the right flavours that really complemented the waffles. The Sea Salt Gula Melaka was a lovely balance of salty and sweet. In fact, it was the presence of sea salt (without being overly salty) that really lifted the flavour of the gula melaka that wasn’t saccharine sweet either. And the Roasted Pistachio was also velvety, fragrant, nutty and sweet. WeĀ couldn’t decide which was the better of the twoĀ as weĀ really enjoyed both.

Never didĀ we expect to find such delectable waffles and luscious ice creams in Toa Payoh. Would we return? Of course! Creamier now sits on my list for the best waffles in Singapore! Don’t wait, go eat!Ā šŸ™‚
