I love anything with yam so when I heard that Double Scoops in Ang Mo Kio serves up Orh Nee (‘yam paste’) ice cream, I just had to come by for a little treat.
And I had this little fellow as company cos’ we were just next to each other by the wall. How cute, haha! 😉
By the way, if you’re using the Sugar app, you can get a scoop of gelato (standard flavour) or a flat white at a discounted price.
I redeemed a scoop of Earl Grey ice cream (S$2.20 via Sugar app) and added on another scoop of Orh Nee ice cream (S$3.70 for premium flavour) as well as a waffle (S$3).
The Earl Grey ice cream (on the left) had a strong aromatic flavour of fragrant earl grey tea which I thoroughly enjoyed. The Orh Nee ice cream, however, was pale in comparison to the Earl Grey because the taste of yam was rather mild. But the good thing was, both flavours somewhat complemented each other so it was a very balanced combination. The ice creams were creamy and smooth but not overly sweet and cloying – exactly the kind I like.
Amazingly, the waffle was quite a delight. Extremely crispy on the outside and tasted somewhat like a biscuit, the waffle held its shape and form without being made soggy by the melting ice cream cos’ I took my time to finish it. It was ‘perfectly over-cooked’ because the inside wasn’t even dry at all. Recommended!
If I wasn’t mistaken, I tasted root beer in the chocolate sauce and that lent another depth of flavour. Should just combine a bit of earl grey and a bit of orh nee with a piece of waffle dabbed in the sauce for every mouthful – absolute yum!
What a satisfying dessert indeed! I’m so glad that this ice cream parlour & cafe is located in my neighbourhood so I can have my dose of ice cream fix whenever I want it. Extra brownie points to the friendly and helpful service crew too. Next to try will be their new charcoal waffle with double scoops of ice cream of course! 😉
