Fatboy’s The Burger Bar @ Upper Thomson Road

Fatboy's The Burger Bar

The husband was yearning for a burger – an unhealthy one that would make us feel guilty after eating but at the same time, die without regrets, haha. And so we made our way to Upper Thomson Road for Fatboy’s, one of the most popular burger joints in Singapore, for what we always looked forward to, DUDE FOOD. 🙂

Fatboy's The Burger Bar

Fatboy’s is probably most known for its build-your-own-burger menu where you can customise your own burger with over 25 toppings, 11 sauces, 4 types of buns and patties which means we could have up to 4,400 different combinations! Seriously, it wasn’t easy to pick cos’ if I did that, my burger would have been tower high so the best move was to stick with their specialty burgers that were already tempting enough.

For drinks, I ordered the Homemade Iced Tea (S$3.50) which was average.

The husband went for the Chocolate Milkshake (S$7) with Peanut Butter (S$0.50). It was rich, creamy and thick but somewhat still not as yummy as our favourite milkshake from Flee Away Cafe that was truly smashing.

For starter, we shared the Jalapeno Poppers (S$11.50/10 pieces) that were beautifully fried to a nice even golden brown colour.

The filling inside was made up of a seeded jalapeno with a generous spread of cream cheese before it was breaded and then deep fried. Though the crust was a little hard, it was crispy and crunchy and didn’t ooze oil when I bit into it. It was a good pairing with the accompanying creamy dipping sauce. We thoroughly enjoyed these poppers though a plate of 10 pieces were too much for the two of us as we got a little sickly of them halfway through.

Fatboy's The Burger Bar Bleu Peppercorn

And for the mains, the husband went for the Bleu Peppercorn (S$13) which I wasn’t too surprised about since blue cheese and black peppercorns were his kind of thing. The burger came with a beef chuck patty coated in crushed black pepper, topped with crispy onion rings and a homemade blue cheese dressing on a sesame seed bun.

The patty had a lovely charred crust whose flavour was further accentuated by the mildly spicy taste and roasted flavour of the peppercorns. Overall, a tasty burger but the blue cheese dressing was just a little stinky for my liking.

The accompanying fries were amazing. They were very crispy and in fact, managed to remain that way till the end of our meal as we took our time to eat. The fries had this similar taste to the curly/twister fries from A&W/MCD – moreish!

Would have preferred coleslaw to lettuce leaves and sliced tomatoes that were just uninspiring.

Fatboy's The Burger Bar The Yolo

You Only Live Once. That’s just what YOLO means. If I die and go heaven (or hell), I hope I can bring along with me a whole lot of The Yolo (S$17.50) that comes with a single patty of meat (choose from beef, lamb or pork), fried egg, fried spam, fried onion strings, mozzarella cheese sticks with smoked chipotle on a sesame seed bun.

My ultimate comfort food with everything that I ever wanted in my ideal burger. I picked the lamb patty that had an intense lamby smell but not in a bad gamey way. It was moist, tender and though not as juicy as I wished it would be, I just loved that charred crust on the patty that gave it a nice smoky flavour. The buns were soft and fluffy. The fried egg had an oozing yolk. The mozzarella cheese sticks were addictively delicious and the fried spam – oh man, that wouldn’t go wrong, would it? The chipotle sauce was da bomb that somewhat bound all ingredients together. My only gripe? The onion strings were not crispy enough.

A satisfying meal indeed. Any time we need a burger, this is one of the best places to go. YOLO! 🙂
