Ho Min San 好面善 @ Paradigm Mall, Johor Bahru

After a whole day of (junk) food-hopping, I was really craving for some soupy dish or noodles to reset my tummy. And hence we picked Ho Min San for dinner.

Ho Min San specialises in Cantonese-style rice vermicelli (米线) and Shanghainese pan-fried buns (生煎包). This Chinese restaurant is owned by Dragon-i Group that also manages Dragon-i and Canton-i, both of which are located at City Square Mall in Johor Bahru. I had reviewed both restaurants before so click on the links if you want to find out more.

Southsea Fish Rolls 海南鱼卷 RM7.55

Started the meal with these fried fish rolls to share. They were quite similar to those dim sum-style fried beancurd skin rolls except these were skinnier. Very crispy on the outside. The filling which had meat and prawns was nicely seasoned too. Not bad.

Two-Combination Pan-Fried Buns 双拼生煎包 RM11.13/4 pieces

Was very looking forward to trying these buns as I hadn’t had them for a long while. We ordered the two-combination pan-fried buns i.e. two pieces of pork and two pieces of prawn.

Look at all that soup inside the bun! The pork bun tasted just like a xiaolongbao except that the bottom was golden brown and crispy. As for the prawn bun, it had a more shrimpy broth flavour which was really fresh-tasting. Both were pretty good!

Dry Noodles with Braised Pork & Mushrooms 香菇台式卤肉面 RM10.19

Portion was quite small for this noodle dish. Its flavour wasn’t what I expected too because the braised meat tasted like the pork filling in a Hokkien bak chang. I was a bit confused with the flavour because it was like a mix of bak chang, zhajiangmian and mushroom noodles. Not a big fan of this dish.

Combination Noodles 招牌杂锦米线 RM19.62

I wanted to try their signature noodles so I got this. Loved the assortment of ingredients which made this whole bowl look so hearty. In fact, it tasted like a homely yong tau foo-style noodles. Not heavily seasoned or laden with MSG. But it didn’t wow me either because the broth tasted weak. Nonetheless it was still hot and comforting especially after having rich and unhealthy food for the whole day. This is definitely a healthier choice.
