Ji De Lai Braised Duck Rice 记得来卤鸭饭 @ Ang Mo Kio Ave 10

Ji De Lai Braised Duck Rice

Though I’ve lived in Ang Mo Kio for the longest time ever, there are still a number of places I’ve yet to explore including this particular precinct. Previously I was in the vicinity to buy cakes from Pine Garden and this time round I was supposed to have lunch at Nakhon Kitchen with the makan buddy but the restaurant was closed. We walked one big round but nothing caught our fancy until we reached this coffee shop that had a promising-looking braised duck rice stall, lol.

Ji De Lai Braised Duck Rice

This Ji De Lai (translates to ‘Remember to Come’) stall that only serves braised duck is part of the same name Hainanese Chicken & Braised Duck Rice chain. They have various outlets all over Singapore.

We ordered the Braised Duck Rice Set ($3.50) each that came with de-boned duck meat, braised egg (half), braised tau kwa, braised peanuts and a soup. Everything on this plate was flawless. The rice was nice and fluffy. The duck meat was tender and juicy. The peanuts were soft and flavoursome. The tau kwa and egg, well, they wouldn’t go wrong, would they? The viscous braising sauce was moreish – so robust and savoury. Even the soup was full of flavour too. And the icing on the cake? The chilli sauce that was vinegary and tangy went really well with the ingredients!

Really surprised that we could find a good braised duck rice here. Totally satisfying and best of all, cheap. 🙂 Give it a try if you’re in the vicinity.

  • Hey Geri, just wanted to say thanks for dropping by my blog 🙂 I’m actually chinese (parents from HK) and it’s so interesting to find out about other Asian cuisines! Especially when you can see so many similarities between them 🙂

Hello Cynthia, thanks for stopping by my blog too 🙂 And I absolutely agree with what you’ve said about Asian cuisine. It’s one of my favourites and I enjoy cooking up Asian dishes too so it’s really fun reading about other Asian food or recipes from around the world just so I could get an inspiration or two to reinvent some common homemade dishes. You have some great recipes there and I would love to try them out! 🙂
