Ji Hotel Orchard Singapore | MUJI Style Staycation

We checked in for a 2-night stay at Ji Hotel that’s located in the heart of Orchard Road. Tugged away in a quiet road (Penang Lane) just behind the former Park Mall or current UBS Singapore HQ. But only a stone’s throw away from Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station and Plaza Singapura. Its prime location makes it really easy and convenient to get around.

I used Klook for my reservation on which the current room rate starts from S$156.49 for a Superior room. We took the Deluxe room instead as it’s bigger in size compared to the Superior. To enjoy more savings, you can make use of ShopBack to earn extra cashback before you confirm your reservation on Klook.

Muji-theme hotel

One unique aspect of this new (but not so new) Ji Hotel is its Muji-inspired interior design that exudes minimalist aesthetics, simplicity and comfort. Really brought back memories of my trip to Japan as the hotels I stayed in Tokyo and Osaka were pretty similar.

Room tour

The moment we entered the room, we could immediately see the toilet that was separated by dark tinted glass.

This was a corner room which we didn’t mind so we wouldn’t be hearing too much of people’s footsteps and slamming of doors, lol. Not too sure about the sound-proofing but perhaps because of the way the room interior was done i.e. the bed area was right inside, we had full privacy and peace throughout.

Well-lit bathroom vanity area with a lighted mirror. Hubby said it was perfect for spot-picking, lol.

There wasn’t any other wardrobe or storage space in the room so this was the only area to place your bags/luggage and hang up clothes.

Bathroom amenities like hand wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, body wash and slippers were provided. Hair dryer was available too.

Water pressure of the shower was excellent.

Pity there wasn’t a bidet spray next to the toilet bowl, otherwise it would have been perfect.

At 22 sqm, the Deluxe room wasn’t huge but was very clean and cosy with ample walking space.

Aircon was also cold enough. Only downside is, the Queen-size bed and down pillows felt quite ‘flat’ without much support but nonetheless, we still managed to sleep ok.

The sofa was where I worked on my laptop (had to pull over the bedside table as there wasn’t any other table to use) or chilled with my iPad most of the time.

On the right hand side, you’d see a mini fridge, a kettle and two bottles of drinking water that would be replenished daily.

Pretty cool-looking Japanese teapot set which can be used – not just for display. The jar had tea bags and mentos sweets in it.

Upsized visual entertainment

We loved the huge 65″ Samsung Smart TV. Enjoyed a few great movies – excellent reception and crisp & clear picture quality.

Now you know who the hotel is named after. This book was placed on the table next to the bed – read if you’re interested.

We had a pleasant stay

All in all, we loved our mini staycation in Ji Hotel. Though it wasn’t a relaxing getaway in a full fledged hotel with swimming pool, gym and/or buffet breakfast, I thought it was still fun to explore a different type of hotel like this. We spent most of our time indoor because we did this staycation on weekdays so we still had to ‘work’. However, we did take some time to also chill, do nothing, be couch potatoes, watch movies, nibble on snacks and eat, eat, eat, haha.

Talking about food. With numerous food options in the area, we were simply spoilt for choices during meal times. Did a variety of takeaways with food apps so we could make use of self pick-up discounts.?
