Lao Fu Zi Fried Kway Teow @ Old Airport Road Food Centre

Lao Fu Zi Fried Kway Teow 1

After finishing our not-so-filling chee cheong fun, we combed the food centre again and spotted this stall. Hadn’t had char kway teow for a long while now so we jumped at the chance to give this a try since there wasn’t a queue anyway.

We ordered the $5 portion that came with 2 medium sized prawns. As we don’t eat cockles, we had them omitted. Service was very fast probably because there weren’t many customers ordering. Barely one minute after we placed our order, a plate of freshly fried kway teow was already presented to us. This kway teow had an intense wok hei (wok fragrance), was moist and not too wet. The chilli paste used wasn’t too bad. And I liked the crunch from the bean sprouts and the springy texture of the lup cheong. Overall, this was an average plate of char kway teow that wasn’t worth the wait if there was a long queue. Still couldn’t be compared to my favourite Lai Heng’s. I would prefer it to have a bit more egg and be a little darker and sweeter in flavour – just needed that extra drizzle of black sauce to complete it. Something was just missing from this.
