Spizza – Traditional taste of wood-fired pizza

My friend and I decided on Italian for dinner on our usual Tuesday date. We headed to the much acclaimed pizza place at Club Street, a tiny brick-walled pizzeria with a wood-fired oven right at the entrance area. From the traditional smell of the burning wood to the impeccable service of the restaurant staff, it was a no frills experience where we could sit back, relax, and soak in the warmth and cosiness of the place.
Ever since my trip to Barcelona last year, I fell in love with the Spanish ‘Black Pig’ Iberico Ham (or ‘Jamon’ as it’s commonly known as). However it is just so hard to get Jamon in Singapore and the next closest thing would be the ‘White Pig’ Parma Ham which (if cured enough i.e. at least 36 months) would taste just as good.

Augusto – parma ham and rock melon
The salty taste of the parma goes excellently with the sweetness of the rock melon. One bite of the two simply explodes wonders in your mouth. Wonderful appetizer to start the meal with.

Wild Mushrooms Soup with Bread Croutons
Light yet full of juicy mushroom bits. That’s what I call REAL mushroom soup!

Crispy Chicken Wings with Arrabbiata sauce
Looks like normal fried chicken wings but once you take a bite, you will know how tender and juicy the meat is. The sauce has a tinge of sweet and sour in it and goes marvellously well with the wings. A must try!

Isabella – tomato, mozzarella, parma ham and rucola salad
Isabella is this baby’s name. Look at how thin the crust is. It doesn’t even taste like bread, but more like a crispy biscuit or cracker. And because it’s wood-fired, you can see a little soot at the bottom of the crust which gives it a very traditional taste. The slightly bitter rucola gels with the cheesy taste of the mozarella and gives it a refreshing punch with every bite. Won’t feel sickly at all no matter how many pieces you eat!

Carmen – profiteroles filled with chocolate cream
Forgot to ask what the outside milky cream is but all the sauces (strawberry and mango) go very well with the puff pastry. Not overly sweet which I really like.

Great site you have here! May I know how's their wines/wine list at Spizza? (:

  • Hi, thanks for your kind comment 🙂 I'm not really a wine person but my friend who was there with me that night did order a white (Italian Grigio Venetta) which was light and suited her mood that evening so you may just give it a try. I'm sure you'd find one that goes with the food as well as your mood 🙂 Good luck!
