Steamed Cheeseburger Recipe I’m crazy about homemade burgers recently. Maybe because I haven’t had fast food for a long time (more than a year?) when I used to eat at McDonald’s 1-2 times per week (my diet and lifestyle were so unhealthy then). Every now and then, I would still get that craving for junk food and in order to restrain myself, I started stocking up ground beef and chicken in the freezer so I could make meat patties for burgers whenever I want to.

Burger making may sound like a daunting task but it’s really not difficult to do so. In fact, it’s more fun and delicious to build your own burger as you have the freedom to add whatever you like to it.

This time round, I made a simple cheeseburger which I initially wanted to cook over the griddle pan. But I just felt I had too much grilled and baked stuffs that weren’t going to do good to my body so I decided to try the steaming method instead.

Steaming the burger patties was a right choice! I made a burger-porn video so you can see just how juicy the meat patty was πŸ˜‰ Even though this patty was lacking that smoky charred flavour, it was still a delicious burger on a different level because the meat juices were locked in and all the natural flavour and sweetness just came oozing out with each bite. Best of all, there is no grease and it’s not ‘heaty’ (in TCM language) at all.

With a burger that fresh, natural and tasty, I wouldn’t mind having it all the time! πŸ™‚

Steamed Cheeseburger Recipe

Ingredients
(makes 3 burgers)

Beef patties:
350g minced beef
1 egg, beaten
1 red onion, finely chopped
1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
2 tbsp skimmed milk
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
salt & freshly ground black pepper

3 slices reduced-fat cheese
3 burger buns
lettuce leaves
sliced tomatoes
sliced onion rings

Instructions

1. Combine all ingredients for the beef patties in a mixing bowl and season with salt and pepper.
2. Divide the meat mixture into 3 portions and shape each portion into a patty of the same width as the bun. Transfer onto a steaming dish lined with parchment paper and chill in fridge for at least half an hour.
3. Bring water in a steamer pot to a boil and steam the patties at high heat for 15 minutes till cooked through.
4. Lower the heat and remove the pot lid. Place a slice of cheese on top of each patty. Put the lid back on and continue to steam for 30 seconds till the cheese melts.
5. To assemble the burger, arrange lettuce leaves and tomato slices on the bottom half of the burger bun. Transfer the meat patty with cheese on top and top off with the sliced onion rings.
