Stewed Beef in Ginger Ale Recipe

Sodas make excellent braising and stewing sauces for meats especially coke which I like to cook with chicken wings. I happened to have a few cans of ginger ale at home and thought I’d try using it to stew some eye round beef that I bought from the supermarket the other day.

Ginger Ale Beef

Stewed Beef in Ginger Ale Recipe

Ingredients (serves 2)
400g eye round beef, cut into cubes
1 can 330ml ginger ale
1/2 tbsp minced garlic
1 1/2 tbsp light soy sauce
1/2 tsp dark soy sauce
drizzle of sesame oil
1 tbsp chinese cooking wine
1/2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
parsley as garnish

Instructions
1. Combine all ingredients in a pan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 1 – 1 1/2 hours till beef is tender. If liquid dries up when simmering, just add water. Stir every now and then to prevent the bottom from burning.
2. Garnish with parsley and serve.

Even though I used 400g of beef, the cubes actually shrank in size after stewing so the portion was just about right for two persons. The sauce was sweet and thoroughly penetrated the beef. The husband devoured this in no time! I’ll try to use other types of sodas next time and then compare results. Bon appetit!
