What to buy from South Korea? (Part 3 of 3) Paris Baguette Cheesecake & Breads

The final instalment of my What to buy from South Korea? series. Click here for Part 1 and Part 2.

Husband’s brother and sister-in-law had highly recommended him to buy cheesecake from Paris Baguette, one of the top bakery chains in Korea. So he got the cake as well as a few other items from the outlet at Incheon Airport. Needless to say, everything had to be packed into his hand language and…

the cheese cake got disfigured by the time it arrived back in Singapore, which wasn’t too bad as only the top surface was defaced.

This cheese cake measured approx. 4″ in diameter and cost 4,000 won (S$4.70). I liked the way it was packed in this round transparent plastic container with a plastic knife underneath the cake for easy cutting & sharing. Not like the cake was that huge for sharing between several people. It was just perfectly sized for 2 persons. I could probably eat one whole cake myself too!

According to the Paris Baguette’s website in Korea, this special cheesecake is made by beating cream cheese and eggs over 1,000 times. That is why this cheesecake tastes so ultra smooth, it somehow just manages to melt in the mouth and glide down the throat. The fascinating part of this cheesecake lies in its dual-natured texture. The outer layers are light and fluffy like standard Japanese cheesecakes but the inner layers are tight and dense like New York cheesecakes. I’m a big fan of cheesecakes and I’m just absolutely delighted that I’m able to taste ‘two types of cheesecakes’ in one.

The flavour of the cream cheese is rich. Decadent but not cloying. The lovely brown baked skin on top of the cake is perfectly done too.

Paris Baguette’s breads are also worth a try. Fluffy, moist and buttery (but not greasy). Pretty good quality. We gave the red bean bun to the parents to share and they loved it. They said the red bean filling had whole red beans in it and wasn’t overly sweet.

Good news and bad news. Paris Baguette is also now available in Singapore. Located on Level 2 of Wisma Atria. It is an open concept cafe that serves delectable desserts and snacks but everything seems overpriced. For the cheesecake, it is sold as a set of 2 minis (approx. 5cm in diameter each) at S$6.00. It’s so small, you can probably devour it in one or two bites.

So if you happen to be in Korea or planning to go there soon, don’t forget to check out Paris Baguette for its sweet and savoury treats!
