In my earlier blog post, I shared my review of Alfredo Kunafa Pistachio Chocolate, but I had also picked up the durian variation to try since it’s different from the usual pistachio. I decided to test it out first—because if it turned out good, I knew I’d want to get some for the folks, especially since Dad loves anything durian.
What You Get for Your Money
The Alfredo Kunafa Durian Chocolate costs $15 for 160g. Only one size available, unlike the pistachio version that comes in 100g or 200g bars. This durian bar is noticeably thinner than the pistachio one.
The moment I opened the packaging, I caught an immediate sniff of durian. No subtlety here – the aroma announces itself boldly.
The Taste Experience
I took a bite. The signature crunch was there—that satisfying crackle of shredded filo pastry that makes kunafa so irresistible. And then came the durian hit.
The durian flavour was incredibly strong, completely taking over the bite. You really have to be a true durian fan to enjoy this, because its intensity overpowers everything else. The chocolate didn’t even stand a chance—it vanished under the boldness of the durian.
This ranks as probably one of the most durian-heavy chocolates I’ve ever tried.
Sweetness Level and Serving Size
The texture remains excellent, but the sweetness level is intense. Super sweet means I can only manage a small cube at a time, otherwise it gets really sickly. This isn’t chocolate for casual munching.
Where to Buy These Chocolates
Besides the souvenir shops in Kampong Glam, you can also find Alfredo Kunafa Pistachio Chocolate from the following:
- Mustafa Centre
- VG Megastore (Shopee)
- Malaysian Chocolate Shop (Shopee)
Final Verdict
I rate this 3 out of 5 stars. It’s not bad tasting, but comparing with the original pistachio version, I still prefer the pistachio. The durian completely overwhelms any chocolate notes.
Try this Alfredo Kunafa Durian Chocolate only if you genuinely love durian flavour – this isn’t for durian fence-sitters or chocolate purists.
