While on staycation at PARKROYAL on Beach Road, I was browsing through the Yindii app when I spotted that All Things Delicious on Arab Street had this Weekend Delightful Mystery Box for sale at $12. Only one left, so I immediately snapped it up. Earlier that day whilst walking around Kampong Glam, I’d come across the cafe and it looked pretty decent. Perfect excuse to try their pastries. 🙂
What’s Yindii and Why I’m Obsessed
For those who don’t know about the Yindii app, it’s actually a platform that connects us to bakeries, cafes and restaurants with surplus food that cannot be sold. We get to buy these at discounted prices – it’s an excellent way to reduce food waste and a proper win-win solution for both businesses and consumers.
Businesses still recover the cost of their ingredients whilst we enjoy serious savings on quality food items. I’ve used the Yindii app several times now and am generally chuffed with what I’ve received. Most purchases are worth twice what you pay based on retail prices.
The most fun bit? You actually don’t know what you’ll be getting until you collect the items. It’s like buying a mystery bag or box of surprises which adds excitement and anticipation. Think blind box opening but with actual food. Brilliant concept, really.
If you’re interested to sign up for Yindii and do your part to help reduce food waste, download the app. Enter code NWAU8H1R in the Referral Code field on the checkout page for your first order. You’ll receive $2 Yindii credits once your first order is successfully completed.
Unboxing My Weekend Mystery Box
The staff were all very warm and friendly. Even though I wasn’t a dine-in guest, they greeted me with smiles and made me feel so welcome. Here’s what I scored from the mystery box at All Things Delicious.
Berry Financiers
Got one blueberry and one raspberry financier. These were a tad sweet but were moist and rich. Definitely preferred the raspberry one as there was tang that cut through the richness and sweetness.
Mixed Berries Bombolini
Pried open the bombolini and woah, jam overflow! However, it was a bit too sweet for my liking as there was way too much jam inside.
For those of you with a sweet tooth, you’ll probably enjoy this loads better.
Pain Au Chocolat
Flaky on the outside, airy on the inside, with bits of chocolate in it. Not bad overall.
Mushroom Quiche
Initially thought those were cherry tomatoes on top, but they were actually sliced carrots. No complaints though – this quiche absolutely smashed it.
The mushrooms gave loads of texture. There were shimeji and chopped shiitake mushrooms. Tasted brilliant – eggy, cheesy, nicely seasoned without being heavy-handed.
But here’s the real winner: the quiche crust was crumbly and crispy, and very tasty on its own. Proper pastry work here. Not soggy, not tough, just perfectly executed shortcrust that held everything together whilst adding its own flavour.
Final Verdict
All in all, the savoury quiche appealed to me much more because the sweet ones were a tad too saccharine for my liking. Don’t get me wrong – they’re genuinely delicious because my husband enjoyed absolutely everything. I just have lower tolerance for sweeter stuff.
The technical execution across all items was solid. All Things Delicious knows their craft, whether it’s financiers or bombolini. My preference for the quiche just says more about my personal palate than their baking skills.
I’d definitely come back again—especially for that quiche! 😉
