Fries time again! If you’ve been following my Amsterdam and Brussels posts, you’ll realise I’ve been eating WAY TOO MUCH fries. Honestly, I think it’s the most popular street food in this part of Europe. When the weather’s chilly and you want something warm but not a full meal, hot crispy fries just feel right.
Stumbling Upon Cafe Georgette
We made a random quick stop at Cafe Georgette, which is basically a restaurant cafe where you can grab local Belgian dishes, sandwiches, burgers, beer, or wine. They’ve also got a fries stand out front, which was exactly what we came for.
Here’s the thing: they fry their fries in beef fat. Sounds amazing already, right? Anything fried in meat fat is always so good.
What We Ordered at Cafe Georgette
We kept it simple and ordered one cone of fries with a sauce.
A cone of fries is 300g and costs €4.50. Each sauce is priced between €1.20 for basic ones like mustard or ketchup, up to €2.40 for premium options like béarnaise or Roquefort.
Quick tip: if you’re dining in the restaurant, the same fries would cost around €6.50 or €7.50. But buying from the fries stand? You pay the cheaper price we got.
The Georgette Sauce Experience
We picked the Georgette sauce for €1.50. It tasted like a mix of mayonnaise, ketchup, and onions. Somehow it also reminded me of Thousand Island dressing. Probably not though, not really sure what actually goes into it. Still, it tasted good, and that was what mattered.
How the Fries Fared
I really like the skin-on fries at Cafe Georgette. Potatoes taste so much better with skin on. It just gives that extra texture.
The fries are double fried in beef fat, which makes them crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. Pretty tasty actually.
Worth a Visit to Cafe Georgette?
If you’re into fries or looking for a light bite while exploring Brussels city centre, Cafe Georgette is definitely an option to consider. The beef fat makes a difference, and the pricing from the stand is reasonable enough for a quick snack.
Not groundbreaking, but solid fries when you need them. 🙂
