We Visited Delirium Village Brussels – The Record-Breaking Bar with 2,000+ Beers

So, Delirium Village Brussels. You’ve probably heard about it in the news. Delirium Café holds a Guinness World Record from 2004 for having the most beer varieties in the world — a whopping 2,004 of them. Now they claim to have almost 2,500. Amazing. This place has a massive selection of international and local Belgian beers. If you’re a beer lover, this is probably your version of heaven – so many different taste profiles to explore. But if beer isn’t your thing, you can still come here to chill as they’ve got non-alcoholic drinks.

What Makes Delirium Village Brussels Special?

Delirium Village Brussels sits in a historic 18th-century basement in the Ilot Sacré district, just steps from the Grand Place. So why do they call it a “village”? Because it has 8 different specialised bars all crammed into the same area. Each bar has its own vibe and menu, so you can just wander around, peek into the different spots, and see which one feels right to plop down for a drink.

Heads up — this place gets really packed. It’s super touristy, especially around the inner alley where the Jeanneke-Pis statue is, so there are always people hanging around snapping photos. Depending on when you show up, finding a spot to sit can be a bit of a challenge.

We Tried Delirium Monasterium

We checked out Delirium Monasterium, which is the bar on the first entrance on the left side of the alley. Straight away, the Beer Meter caught our attention. €29.90 gets you 10 different beers – a great way to taste different varieties at once without committing to full-sized glasses.

With over 2,000 beers on the menu, choosing just one is tough. The beer meter lets you sample 10 different beers in one go.

The Beer Meter Experience

The Beer Meter comes with 10 small glasses of different beers. Each glass is about 4 inches tall – enough to get a proper taste. The beer names are written on the board above the bar, so you know what you’re drinking.

Here are the 10 beers we had for the Beer Meter:

  • Campus – 5%
  • Delirium Tremens – 8.5%
  • Delirium Red – 8%
  • Floris Cactus – 4.2%
  • Paranoia IPA – 5.6%
  • Legends Harmony – 5.7%
  • Rulles Blonde – 7%
  • Maredsous Brown – 8%
  • Trappe White – 5.5%
  • Bush Amber – 12%

My Honest Take

I tried the beers from right to left (following the order above), so at least I knew what I was drinking. First sip wasn’t impressionable. Interestingly, the more I drank, the better it tasted.

Hands down my favourite was Floris Cactus, the green one. It barely tastes like beer at all, haha. I’m only here for the experience, not exactly a beer drinker.

My husband, a true-blue beer drinker, wasn’t too impressed with the beers… oops. His recommendation: if you’re a serious beer drinker, get what you actually like. Honestly, this Beer Meter is more of a touristy gimmick.

Important Safety Tips

Watch your belongings. Don’t leave your bags on tables unattended. Pickpockets are known to operate around here. We noticed several dodgy characters eyeing tourists. Stay alert.

Should You Visit Delirium Village Brussels?

If you’re just after the experience and want to tick off this famous spot, go for it. The Beer Meter’s a fun way to try a bunch of different Belgian brews if you’re curious. But set your expectations right. It’s touristy and can get really crowded, but hey — it’s iconic, historic, and right by Grand Place. Worth seeing at least once! 🙂
