I’d shared earlier about our Changi Beach sunrise adventure, but the morning didn’t end there. On our way to Changi Village Hawker Centre for breakfast, we couldn’t resist swinging by Glory Fried Banana to grab some piping-hot goreng pisang to take away.
Stumbling Upon Glory Fried Banana
Honestly wasn’t expecting to see a goreng pisang stall open so early in the morning. I guess there are people who fancy fried snacks for breakfast – and how could we miss out on buying some to take back?
There are several goreng pisang stalls in Changi Village Hawker Centre, with Million Star Fried Banana being the most famous. At 7+ in the morning, only Glory Fried Banana was open. They already had an impressive array of freshly fried snacks, all neatly displayed.
Here’s an interesting tidbit – Glory Fried Banana is actually run by an ex-employee of Million Star Fried Banana. There’ve been stories covered about the goreng pisang business drama in this hawker centre. If you’re into the gossip, just Google it!
How We Lost Our Tapioca Cake (Haha!)
Some random old uncle tried helping the lady boss serve us whilst she stayed busy frying fritters. All the chit-chat my mum had with them completely distracted me, and I miscounted the items I ordered. Only realised when we got home that the tapioca cake was missing – despite paying for it! That was supposed to be hubby’s favourite item too. Oh dear!
Our Glory Fried Banana Haul Breakdown
Pisang Raja ($1.30)
Crispy and crunchy batter that wasn’t overly thick. The banana itself was incredibly sweet. Yes, it was greasy since this was deep-fried, but Glory Fried Banana fried it beautifully – it didn’t ooze oil when bitten into, and the oil was clearly fresh. Didn’t feel sickly eating this at all.
Cempedak ($1.50)
So sweet and juicy! Really loved the texture – very addictive.
The cempedak seed can be eaten too, and it tasted quite like chestnut. This was my absolute favourite.
3-in-1 Handmade Sweet Cake ($1.80)
Nian gao wrapped between sweet potato and yam. The sweet potato had its natural sweetness, nian gao wasn’t overly sweet, and the yam was soft and fluffy. Really good textures when combined – every element complemented one another perfectly.
Spring Roll ($1.50)
Crunchy skin packed tightly with vegetables. Not bad either.
Final Thoughts
All in all, Glory Fried Banana serves up some proper legit fritters. The cempedak is absolutely a must-eat, followed by the pisang raja. Everything should be eaten whilst it’s warm and fresh from the fryer. Super shiok!
