Islandish Family Seafood Restaurant became our go-to spot during our recent Langkawi trip. We usually stick to eating at PARKROYAL Langkawi Resort or ordering Grab deliveries, but this time we wanted something different. A quick Google search led us here, and the 10-minute Grab ride was totally worth it.
Location and First Impressions
The restaurant sits tucked in an alley between Serenity Spa and another Chinese seafood place. It’s essentially a Thai-Chinese seafood tze char joint. The staff greeted us warmly. The environment felt comfortable, nothing fancy but clean and inviting.
The Menu at Islandish Family Seafood Restaurant
The menu is massive. Seafood dominates the selection, with every protein available in various cooking styles. What caught our attention? The prices seemed more reasonable compared to those touristy seafood restaurants along the same stretch.
You can order fresh seafood by weight here. Islandish Family Seafood Restaurant displays prices for king prawns, squid and live crabs clearly on each table. Seasonal prices fluctuate, so this transparency prevents bill shock. Pro tip: be specific when ordering. If you’re ordering something like black pepper crab for two, you can request a crab weighing around 800g to 1kg — don’t just leave the size up to the staff.
Many dishes come in three sizes: S, M, L. Order according to your group size. Want variety? Go for small portions like we did. You’ll get to try more dishes this way.
What We Ordered
Crab Meat Fried Rice (RM8)
You can actually see chunky bits of crab meat throughout. Nice wok hei too. The seasoning hits the right notes.
This fried rice delivers exactly what you’d expect from a proper seafood spot.
Butter Prawn (RM23)
When this arrived, I genuinely thought it was a deep-fried omelette. Couldn’t even spot the prawns initially. Those crispy bits? Absolutely shiok. They added quite a bit of sugar though. You can taste the granules. It skews sweet, which can get a bit sickly. The prawns themselves were fresh and cooked perfectly. Texture was spot on. Shells peeled off easily.
Fuyong Omelette (RM10)
Standard tze char fare. Tastes good, though a bit oily. Nothing extraordinary but nothing wrong either.
Thai Style Squid (RM19)
Not overcooked. The squid stayed tender. Piquant flavour that really stimulates the appetite. This dish worked well.
Islandish Chicken (RM16)
I ordered this expecting something special, something signature. With those dried chillies, it tasted pretty much like kung pao chicken. No surprise element here, but still tasty enough.
The Damage and Final Verdict
Prices on the menu are nett. No ++ charges. What you see is what you pay. Our entire meal plus two Coke Zero came to RM85. Reasonable for the quality and quantity.
We liked everything we tried. Not spectacular, but definitely above average. Service was fast. All dishes arrived almost simultaneously. Staff remained friendly and helpful throughout.
Worth visiting Islandish Family Seafood Restaurant? Absolutely. We’ll be back next time we’re in Langkawi. It’s become our reliable seafood fix when we don’t want to venture into the more expensive tourist traps.
