La Belgique Gourmande Review: Brussels’ Sweetest Souvenir Stop

I’m usually not one to get excited over sweet shops. But while strolling around Brussels, La Belgique Gourmande immediately caught my attention. There was something about the colourful displays and the way the candies were arranged — very Harry Potter–like, almost magical. So of course, I had to go inside.

The moment I stepped in, it felt like I’d entered a candy-filled wonderland. Shelves were stacked with a colourful array of sweets and chocolates. Every corner of the shop feels so photo-worthy.

With so many tempting options, how can we not be spoilt for choice?

Belgian Chocolates & Sweet Treats

Being in Belgium, chocolates are a given — and La Belgique Gourmande has plenty of options. You’ll find chocolate bars, pralines, and assorted selections that make easy gifts. You don’t have to be a chocolate expert as it’s quite straightforward to choose something that looks good and feels very “Belgium”.

The displays are inviting and everything is clearly laid out, making it easy to browse at your own pace.

Pretty Packaging That Makes Perfect Souvenirs

What really makes La Belgique Gourmande stand out is the packaging. Many of the sweets and chocolates come in beautifully designed boxes, tins, and gift-ready packaging. Some are elegant, others are fun and colourful — but all look presentable enough to give as gifts straight away.

If you’re anything like me and always thinking about what to bring back to Singapore for family, friends, or colleagues, this shop makes souvenir shopping incredibly easy. No extra wrapping needed, and many items are compact enough to fit nicely into your luggage.

Choco marshmallow heaven

Almost fooled me—look like real stones!

Mix & Match Candies for Personal Snacking

The mix-and-match candy section is where the real fun starts. It costs €6.90 per 100g. Huge variety to choose from, all neatly displayed and clearly labelled. You can pick a little of everything, which is perfect if you like trying different flavours. Get them weighed at the counter and pay by weight.

Don’t go overboard—start small, check the weight and price, then see if you want extra!

€21 for this lot… pretty pricey, right?

I got an assortment of candies and chocolates. About €21 for all of these. Very expensive honestly as it wasn’t a lot, but it’s the best way to try different varieties.

Must-Try: Cuberdon

One thing you must try at La Belgique Gourmande is the cuberdon. It’s a cone-shaped candy, a traditional Belgian confectionery. I tried violet, strawberry, and passionfruit which kinda reminded me of jelly beans. Outside hard, inside soft and gooey. The passionfruit flavour tastes like pineapple while violet is simply grape.

My Personal Favourites

The chocolates are all very sweet, so share if you can unless you have a really sweet tooth. My favourites are the melo cakes, which are basically like tea cakes with a biscuit base, marshmallow, and then coated in chocolate. The chocolate almonds are brilliant – must try the mascarpone one. The speculoos truffles are exceptional. And the orangettes, which are chocolate-coated orange peel, hit differently.

White, milk, or dark… your chocolate, your choice!

Customise Your Own Chocolate Bar

La Belgique Gourmande lets you customise your own chocolate bar with a variety of toppings to choose from. You can also include a personalised message. Perfect if you’re looking for a special gift for someone special.

Customisable hammer chocolates—smash the bar with the hammer before eating 😄

Yes, even Manneken Pis comes in chocolate form 😂

Final Thoughts

Even if you don’t plan on buying much, La Belgique Gourmande is a fun and easy stop while exploring Brussels on foot. It’s relaxed, nicely laid out, and a pleasant break from sightseeing — I ended up lingering longer than expected, admiring the colourful displays and snapping photos. With its convenient location, wide range of sweets, and beautifully packaged options at different price points, it’s a fuss-free spot for both personal treats and thoughtful souvenirs, even if you’re not usually a sweets person.
