Langkawi Night Market: Why Temonyong Night Market Should Be on Your Thursday Itinerary

Temonyong Night Market is hands down my favourite Langkawi night market. Every time I visit this island, I make sure Thursday night is free just for this. It happens every Thursday from 6-11pm, and trust me, you don’t want to miss it.

Getting There

The Temonyong Night Market sits just a quick 5-minute Grab ride from PARKROYAL Langkawi Resort. Easy access makes it perfect for tourists staying anywhere in the vicinity.

What Makes This Night Market Special

This isn’t your massive, overwhelming night market. It’s compact, manageable, and refreshingly authentic. Here’s what struck me: during normal days, it’s literally just an empty plot of land. Come Thursday evening, it transforms into a bustling food haven.

The vibe here feels incredibly kampung-like. It’s as though neighbourhood residents step out of their homes, set up stalls, and serve their best local delights and homecooked specialties. Most visitors? They’re locals too. This authentic, residential atmosphere is exactly what sets Temonyong Night Market apart from touristy spots.

The Food Selection

The food variety impressed me more than expected. You’ll find:

  • Satay and grilled chicken (cooked fresh on charcoal)
  • Rice and noodle dishes
  • Kebabs and fried chicken
  • Assorted skewers
  • Thai street snacks
  • Sushi
  • Pastries and cakes
  • Fresh fruits, fish, and seafood

Fair warning: prepare to smell like BBQ smoke. Multiple stalls do charcoal grilling right there on the spot. The smoky aroma follows you around, but honestly, it’s part of the Temonyong Night Market experience.

What We Tried

We grabbed several items and brought them back to our hotel. The verdict? Not mind-blowing, but definitely decent and tasty. Would I eat here again? Absolutely.

Fresh spring rolls with imitation prawns — and that green dipping sauce is calling my name!

Thai-style coconut pancakes — hubby’s favourite! So nice to find them here.

Fried chicken and fries drenched in cheese, chilli, and mayo — so sinful but so shiok!

First time trying Roti Daging Cheese — like a bun with beef and cheese, wrapped in a spring roll wrapper and fried.

Tastes just like a Singapore pasar malam kebab, only with way more sauce (and I’m not complaining 😋).

Cucur udang (fried prawn fritters) — these are so good!

Fried spring rolls coated with chilli sauce — simple but so satisfying!

Who can ever resist mango sticky rice?

My top recommendations:

Got these skewers without high expectations, but they turned out pretty good — a mix of different balls, sausages, and grilled chicken, all super tasty with chilli!

The skewers – Don’t skip these. Ask for chilli sauce. They’ll douse it generously over the skewers. Flavourful and addictive.

Loved the grilled chicken! Charcoal-grilled on the spot, so you get that perfect smoky, charred aroma.

Grilled chicken – Beautifully marinated with that perfect smoky flavour. This one’s a winner.

Don’t underestimate how filling these “snacky” items are. We ordered a variety, thinking we’d want more. Wrong. We ended up pretty stuffed.

Practical Tips for Temonyong Night Market

Cash only. The night market doesn’t accept cards. Make sure you’ve got ringgit on hand before heading down.

Most stalls display prices clearly, which I appreciated. No awkward bargaining or price surprises.

Prices are incredibly wallet-friendly. The quality-to-price ratio makes this Langkawi night market fantastic value.

Final Thoughts

Temonyong Night Market delivers exactly what I want from a local food experience: authentic flavours, affordable prices, and genuine neighbourhood vibes. It’s not trying to be fancy or Instagram-perfect. It’s real, honest, and delicious. That’s why I never miss this Langkawi night market on my Thursday visits.
