I was just craving a good sandwich when I ended up at Le P’tit Normand, right in the heart of Brussels near Grand Place. It was meant to be a quick bite, but it quickly turned into one of those unexpectedly memorable food stops.
From the street, it looks like just another takeaway counter. Small shop, nothing fancy. Step inside and you’re greeted by a proper delicatessen — shelves and counters loaded with cured meats, cold cuts, sausages, cheeses, and all sorts of dips and spreads.
Fresh Sandwiches Made to Order
Here’s the thing about Le P’tit Normand – they do sandwiches too. Really good ones, according to reviews I’d read.
When we arrived, the display case sat empty. No sandwiches in sight. We asked if they had any left. The guy behind the counter smiled and started assembling fresh sandwiches right there. Brilliant service.
The Menu
Since the menu was entirely in French, we didn’t fully know what we were ordering. But with customers waiting behind us, we skipped Google Translate, guessed our way through a few words, and ordered by pronouncing the sandwich name in English-style French — somehow, it worked. Haha!
What We Ordered at Le P’tit Normand
Bourguignon Sandwich
This sandwich packed Délice de Bourgogne aux noix, Rosette de Lyon, and cressonnette. Translation: triple-cream cheese from Burgundy with walnuts, dry-cured pork sausage, and watercress.
The bread was a bit tough to bite through. But the flavours? Spot on. Rich, creamy cheese. Salty cured sausage. Fresh, crunchy watercress cutting through the richness.
Create-Your-Own Sandwich
The staff assembled this one for us. Tomato tapenade, sliced tomatoes, pickles, watercress. Pretty sure there was some pâté in there too.
Light. Refreshing. It’s the kind of sandwich that fills you up without weighing you down — and somehow makes you want more.
Worth Visiting Le P’tit Normand?
Both sandwiches cost around €6 each. That’s reasonable for Brussels, especially for this quality.
I wasn’t expecting much from a small deli counter. But Le P’tit Normand delivered proper sandwiches with quality ingredients and friendly service. If you’re into sandwiches too, go check this place out! 😉
