Poundland UK has been my favourite discount retailer for over a decade, and honestly, it’s one of the things I miss most about living in the UK. This place stocks everything from chocolates to beauty products, and the prices? Still ridiculously affordable.
When I first walked into Poundland more than ten years ago, literally everything cost £1. These days, inflation has pushed some items beyond that magic price point, but most things still start from £1 onwards. Think of it like Daiso in Singapore – what used to be $2 is now $2.18 & up, but you’re still getting massive value.
The store carries a huge range: food and drinks, household products, home decor, health and beauty items, stationery, pet supplies. You name it, Poundland probably stocks it.

My Recommended Poundland Buys
1. Assorted Chocolates and Candies
The chocolate and candy section at Poundland beats most supermarket prices hands down. You’ll find Cadbury, Quality Street, Ferrero Rocher, Maltesers, Haribo, M&M’s, and Kinder Bueno sitting on those shelves. Selection here is generally cheaper than supermarkets unless there’s a special promo. Perfect if you’re grabbing gifts for family and friends back home in Singapore.
2. Clotted Cream Fudge
Rich, buttery, creamy, with these lovely caramel notes. Really nice stuff. Super sweet though – like, really, really sweet. Not for the faint-hearted, but absolutely delicious.
3. Skinny Dream Snack Bars
I buy these either from Poundland or ALDI UK. Many flavours to choose from, but Rocky Road and Strawberries & Cream are my all-time favourites. Keep them in your bag for situations when you need a pick-me-up.
4. XHC Argan Oil Hair Products
Definitely one of the cheapest argan oil hair product brands out there. These aren’t mini travel sizes either – they’re actual retail-sized tubs. If you have frizzy or damaged hair, these keep everything smooth and hydrated. Worth stocking up because they’re totally inexpensive.
5. Arm & Hammer Toothpaste
I’m sure many of you know Arm & Hammer baking soda, but did you know they make baking soda toothpaste too? I go for Extra White and Charcoal Sensitive, which have teeth whitening effects. Helps keep my teeth clean as I’m a daily coffee and tea drinker – these drinks stain teeth over time. The only thing? You have to withstand the salty bitter taste of baking soda. I got used to it pretty quickly though.
6. Tea Tree Oil
Has antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. Great for healthy skin and nails. You can use it on acne and pimples, treat nail fungus and athlete’s foot, soothe insect bites. Proper multi-purpose stuff.
7. Face Cleansing Wipes
Good for makeup removal, even waterproof makeup. Pure brand does sensitive skin versions that are fragrance-free. Nivea ones are available too, cheaper than in Singapore.
8. Wellness by Ferne McCann Beauty & Wellness Products
Body Scrub, Body Butter, and Hair Mask – you can do your own spa at home with these.
9. Multivitamins & Health Supplements
I like Bassetts because they come in gummy form and taste good. They have both kids and adults versions. Plus a range of other vitamins and supplements too – Vitamin B-Complex, Vitamin D3 + Calcium, the lot.
10. Paracetamol & Ibuprofen
Super cheap here. Buy if you need to restock supplies.
11. Festive Themed/Occasion-Themed Items
Easter, Halloween, Christmas, Mother’s Day items. Like this cute mug I spotted during the Easter period.
12. Books
Fiction and non-fiction titles, decent range. I like to pick up cookbooks.
13. Lotus Biscoff Biscuits
So much cheaper in the UK than in Singapore. Goes well with coffee or tea, or smash the biscuits and use as topping for ice cream or yogurt.
14. Tunnock’s Tea Cakes
This Scottish brand of tea cakes are made of round biscuit bases topped with fluffy marshmallow, all encased in chocolate. My mum’s favourite. I used to buy the ones from M&S for her, but later realised these were just as good.
15. Mr Kipling Confections
Great for gifting because they come in boxes and they’re all British-style bakes like Battenbergs, hot cross pies, Bramley apple pies, Angel slices.
16. Cooking & Baking Accessories
Cake tins, muffin trays, oven dishes, woks, pots – cheap and good. Roasting bags and cooking liners are very handy. They keep post-cooking cleaning to a minimum.
17. Frozen Food
For lazy days when you don’t want to cook or head out to eat. There’s frozen meals, pizzas, pies, desserts. Lotus Biscoff Ice Cream Cake, BBQ Pork Ribs – basically you can have a complete three-course meal at home.
18. Fray Bentos
Fancy a pie in a tin? Personally I’m not a fan because I’d prefer freshly baked pies, but my husband loves it – it’s a taste of nostalgia for him. Remove the lid, pop the pie into the oven and bake till the top crust goes golden brown and crispy.
19. R Whites Lemonade
Can’t get this in Singapore. Back when my husband and I were in a long-distance relationship before we got married, he would pack a few bottles of this in his luggage and bring to Singapore for me. I like this better than Sprite or 7-Up. Very crisp, sparkling and lemony.
20. Lip Balm
Comes in various flavours. Protect your lips, especially if you’re travelling during cold weather – lips will crack easily.
21. Footcare Products
Do a little foot spa at home. I recommend Tea Tree & Peppermint Foot Peel – feels revitalising on the feet. When done, use a foot pack to moisturise feet and make them smooth. Good if you have rough, dry or callused feet.
22. Nose Pore Strips
Very effective in removing blackheads and unclogging pores on the nose.
23. Gel Nail Polish
Many colours to choose from, and these gel nail polishes last longer than regular nail polish. You don’t have to head to the nail salon to remove the gel polish because they have gel nail polish remover too, so you can easily DIY.
24. The Real Pork Crackling Co.
Savoury pork crackling snacks – so addictively good. Eat on its own or as topping on salads. Suitable for those on low-carb or keto diets.
25. Puzzle Books
Crosswords, Word Search, Sudoku. I get the Sudoku ones for my dad – he likes doing them, keeps his mind active when at home. I get the crosswords ones for myself, something fun to do during long-haul flights.
26. Adult Colouring Books
The trend may be over, but I still think these colouring books are a great way to relieve stress, especially during times when you feel like having a digital detox. Also something fun to do on your long flight home.
