TESCO UK Choux Buns: Why These £1.65 Supermarket Treats Are Actually Really Good

TESCO UK surprised me with what might be the best choux buns I’ve ever eaten. Right after raving about LIDL’s cookies in my previous post, here I am again, completely obsessed with another supermarket find. Who knew British supermarkets would become my unexpected dessert destination?

Back in Singapore, I’ve tried plenty of fresh bakes from supermarket bakeries. Nothing really stuck with me. They were fine, just forgettable. But TESCO UK changed everything.

The Choux Buns That Started It All

My first trip to the UK before marrying my husband brought me to his family home in Essex. Sitting on the kitchen counter were these boxes of TESCO Belgian Chocolate Choux Buns. My mother-in-law ate one every single afternoon during her tea break. Religious about it.

I grabbed one because it looked decent. That first bite? Game over. I immediately got why she was so hooked.

The packaging describes them as cream filled choux pastry drizzled with rich chocolate fondant. Spot on. The choux pastry is light, airy, slightly moist. The exterior isn’t crispy like Beard Papa’s in Singapore because these come pre-packaged from the chilled desserts section. Not fresh from the oven. But honestly? Doesn’t matter one bit.

The filling is smooth and luscious. The chocolate fondant brings proper sweetness and chocolatey depth. The cream filling cuts through the richness of the chocolate perfectly. You get this beautiful balance of contrasting textures and flavours.

What Makes These TESCO UK Choux Buns Special

For me, a truly good dessert needs to deliver comfort with every bite. It should release those happy hormones. These choux buns do exactly that. What amazes me is how something this ordinary-looking from a regular supermarket can be so extraordinary. Two choux buns for £1.65. Incredible value for something that tastes this good.

The Eclair Alternative

TESCO Belgian Chocolate Eclairs come in a 4-pack for £1.85. Similar to the choux buns but long and oblong instead. We grab these when the choux buns sell out. Same satisfying experience, different shape.

Beyond the Choux Buns: What Else to Get at TESCO UK

I’ve already covered my ALDI and LIDL shopping experiences. TESCO UK deserves the same attention, especially their house brand products:

  • Biscuits and cakes – Solid quality, great variety
  • Snacks – Unique British flavours you won’t find in Singapore
  • Local confections – Treats that are hard to source back home unless you visit M&S

UK supermarkets stock so many local products. Always something new to discover, try, and bring back as gifts for family and friends.

Ready Meals and Fresh Produce

TESCO UK has a massive range of ready meals. Perfect for days when you want something simple but don’t feel like cooking. All very affordably priced.

The fresh fruit section deserves a mention too. Raspberries and blackberries that cost a fortune in Singapore? Super cheap here. I eat them by the handful, loading up on antioxidants and vitamin C guilt-free.

Wrapping Up My UK Supermarket Series
