Tribe Amsterdam City: A Modern Boutique Stay in the Heart of Amsterdam

We stayed at Tribe Amsterdam City for four nights during our European adventure. After spending time with my in-laws in the UK, we hopped on the Eurostar to Amsterdam and checked into this boutique hotel that opened its doors in April 2022.

We booked directly through the Accor website and paid €476.08 (about S$715) for four nights. That’s roughly S$180 per night, which felt pretty reasonable for Amsterdam’s standards. Room rates always vary depending on when you travel. When I last checked Expedia for November 2025 rate, it was around S$120 per night, which was much cheaper than what we paid.

I added a note during booking requesting for a higher floor room. They actually took it into account and assigned us a room on the top floor (8th floor). Nice!

Double Room with Queen Bed

Our Double Room came with one queen bed and measured 22 square metres. That’s decent sized for a European city hotel. Not massive, but enough space to move around.

The bed was comfortable. Proper firm mattress, good pillows, quality linens. No complaints about sleep quality here.

The decor blends industrial accents with bold colours and contemporary furniture, creating a design-focused but functional space.

View from our room window. It rained almost every day we were in Amsterdam — the city looked extra moody and grey.

What’s Inside the Room

The Double Room came equipped with the following:

  • Decent-sized TV mounted on the wall, though there aren’t many channels and most are in Dutch. It’s a smart TV, so you can sign in to YouTube, Netflix, or cast from your device.
  • Proper work desk
  • Dedicated luggage area, or you can just tuck your suitcase under the bed if you don’t need to keep opening it.
  • Ample hanging space for clothing
  • Bathrobes in the cabinet below the TV
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Full-length mirror
  • Safe that is big enough to fit your laptop
  • Capsule coffee machine
  • Kettle with assorted tea bags
  • Mini fridge with two complimentary bottles of drinking water (NOT replenished daily)
  • Cosy chill corner with a comfy armchair
  • Air conditioning that works fine
  • Blackout curtains

The Bathroom Situation

The bathroom was compact but well-designed. There’s both a rain shower and handheld shower. Water pressure could be stronger though. They stock Kevin Murphy amenities – hand and body wash, body lotion, shampoo, and conditioner. Hair dryer’s provided too.

Just a heads-up — there were no toothbrushes, toothpaste, or shower caps provided, so you’ll need to bring your own.

Everything stayed clean throughout our stay. Housekeeping did their job properly.

Location: Tribe Amsterdam City’s Neighbourhood

Tribe Amsterdam City is located in Amsterdam Noord, just a one-minute walk (about 100 metres) from Noord metro station. From there, it’s only two stops to Amsterdam Centraal, the city’s main transport hub and also where we arrived from London via Eurostar.

With the metro practically at your doorstep, getting around the city couldn’t be easier. It’s super convenient.

Within Noord station’s premises, you’ll find convenience stores like Boon’s Pitstop and Albert Heijn To Go, along with a few restaurants.

Definitely check out Boon’s Pitstop. They have pretty good sandwiches.

The nearest shopping mall, Winkelcentrum Boven ’t Y, is about 700 metres away and just a 9-minute walk. There, you’ll find several supermarkets including Jumbo, LIDL, Albert Heijn, and an Asian grocery store, plus plenty of food spots and various shops.

Oh yes, it’s easy to order food via Uber Eats too, with plenty of options available. But prices aren’t exactly cheap. I wouldn’t want to pay €15 for a single Pad Thai, to be honest. Haha!

Overall, I find the Noord neighbourhood quite safe to walk around, both during the day and at night. Not touristy-crowded but not isolated either. Just right.

Ground Floor: The Social Hub of Tribe Amsterdam City

The ground floor is where Tribe Amsterdam City really shows its personality. This isn’t your typical hotel lobby. It’s designed as a multi-purpose social space.

The restaurant and bar area flows into various seating zones. Some spots have comfy sofas, others have high tables. You can grab breakfast, work on your laptop, have drinks, or just hang out. The layout feels flexible, but the social vibe is a bit lacking since the space is generally quiet and underused, probably because most guests are out exploring.

The Gym: Small but Present

Tribe Amsterdam City has a 24-hour gym. Very tiny though. Just a few machines.

If you’re serious about training, this won’t cut it. But for a quick workout to shake off travel fatigue or maintain some routine, it does the job. I squeezed in two sessions. Never crowded when I went.

Who This Hotel Suits

Tribe Amsterdam City works well for:

  • Couples wanting a comfortable base without luxury price tags
  • Solo travellers who appreciate social spaces
  • Digital nomads needing reliable WiFi and work areas
  • People who prefer boutique hotels over chains
  • Travellers who value location and transport links

Would I Book Tribe Amsterdam City Again?

Yes. Tribe Amsterdam City delivered what it promised. Clean comfortable room, excellent location, functional amenities, fair pricing. Nothing extraordinary but nothing disappointing either.

For S$180 per night in Amsterdam, you’re getting solid value. The location alone makes it worthwhile, and with Noord station practically at your doorstep, getting around the city is completely hassle-free.

If you want traditional luxury, look elsewhere. If you want modern, functional, well-located accommodation in Amsterdam, Tribe Amsterdam City ticks the boxes. 🙂
