Vegan Junk Food Bar sits just a 3-minute walk from the Heineken Experience, making it a convenient lunch stop after your brewery tour. We spotted it whilst hunting for food nearby, and the solid Google reviews sealed the deal. Whether you’re vegan or not, this Amsterdam spot’s worth checking out – they’re doing plant-based junk food properly.

The Drinks Situation
Here’s the thing – they don’t do iced water. You’ll pay around the same price for still or sparkling water as you would for a Coke or Heineken beer.
We went straight for a Coke Zero (€3.95) and beer instead.
The Funky Falcon (€6.95) was hubby’s pick. This pale ale brought refreshing citrus and lemongrass notes. Solid choice.
Crunchy Mac n Cheeze Betterballs (€8.95)
These balls came stuffed with macaroni & cheese and served with Vegan Junk Food Bar’s signature sauce. The cheesy flavour doesn’t hit like dairy cheese, but the seasoning’s spot on.
Crispy breaded exterior, fried golden. The tangy sauce cuts through the richness perfectly.
Iconic Rainbow Fries (€15.95)
This dish screams Instagram. Shoestring fries topped with crispy Fly Wingz strips and bacon bits, drizzled with rainbow sauces.
The fried chicken bits taste like chicken nuggets – probably soy-based. The vegan bacon fooled us completely. Couldn’t tell it wasn’t real bacon.
Those colourful sauces? Pretty but pointless. No taste differences, just for show. Still, the presentation makes eating this fun.
Beastie Shawarma (€16.50)
When we visited, this came on a pink bun with lettuce, jalapeños, pomegranate, flower petals, and purple garlic sauce. Their current menu serves it on Lebanese flatbread instead.
That pink bun looked dense but surprised us – pillowy, airy, lightly toasted. Tasted freshly baked.
The filling’s texture resembles meat, likely soy. You can tell it’s vegan though – think chewy tempeh. The flavour doesn’t quite nail authentic shawarma, but there’s subtle cumin working its magic. Very tasty regardless.
Why Vegan Junk Food Bar Works
Everything tasted good. We didn’t miss meat because the textures delivered. Beautiful presentations elevated the whole experience. This place takes junk food up several notches – comforting without making you feel gross after.
Portion sizes worked perfectly for two people sharing. Service was friendly and quick. By 1.30pm, the restaurant packed out with the working lunch crowd.
The vibes sealed the deal. Inviting, vibrant, cheerful. Vegan Junk Food Bar proves plant-based food doesn’t need to be boring or plain. Singapore desperately needs more spots like this to push plant-based eating forward!
