Crispy Milk Donut or 鮮奶脆皮甜甜圈 is a Taiwanese snack that has gained popularity in recent years. It is a type of fried donut that is made with fresh milk, flour, and other ingredients to create a unique flavour and texture. The dough is shaped into rings, coated in batter and then deep-fried until golden brown and crispy. The result is a deliciously crispy exterior that gives way to a tender, airy interior.
One evening, while exploring Ximending, we came across Yi Cui Crispy Milk Donut (一脆鮮奶脆皮甜甜圈).

Since we arrived late, only the Crispy Milk Donuts, which are their signature item, were still available. Therefore, we decided to get one each.
The current price (as of March 2023) for the Crispy Milk Donut is NT$40 per piece or NT$100 for a set of three.
Crispy Milk Donut
The Crispy Milk Donut has a slightly irregular shape due to the batter, unlike regular donuts with smooth edges. It is coated with powdered sugar and milk powder. Upon taking a bite, I was pleasantly surprised as it was unlike any other donut I had tried before. The exterior was crispy, while the interior remained soft and fluffy, with a slightly chewy texture, reminiscent of an old-fashioned donut. Despite being deep-fried, it didn’t feel oily at all. What sets this donut apart is its unique milk aroma that is quite distinctive. It’s a great snack to have while on the go!
