115 Ho Jiak Western Cuisine Review: Proper Hawker Centre Western Food at One Punggol

I first noticed 115 Ho Jiak Western Cuisine at One Punggol Hawker Centre when a group of boys were tucking into these mega-sized chicken cutlets—and that was enough to convince me to give it a try. Honestly, I’m so glad I did. Working from Punggol Regional Library has become our routine, and this western food stall has quickly climbed our lunch rotation.

Spotted: Massive Chicken Cutlets at 115 Ho Jiak

My husband and I have been camping out at Punggol Regional Library’s co-working zone for months. Free reservations and air-conditioned comfort make it our temporary office. One Punggol Hawker Centre is up on the 2nd floor, and we’ve made our way through most of the stalls by now.

Western food wasn’t on our radar initially. We had our usual suspects – Hakka Leipopo, Eng Kee Chicken Wings, Botak Cantonese Porridge. Then we spotted a group of teenage boys clutching massive chicken cutlets. That got our attention.

The menu board showed $8.90 for an XL chicken cutlet. Seemed reasonable enough. We ordered one to share. Zero regrets.

What We Ordered

XL Chicken Cutlet with Cream Pasta – $8.90

This beast covers the entire plate. We’re talking double the size of regular chicken cutlets from most western food stalls. The chicken was properly crispy outside, tender inside. Perfect for sharing between two unless you’re absolutely starving.

The honey mustard dipping sauce splits opinions in our household. I find it a tad too sweet, but my husband devours it. The cream pasta underneath delivers comfort food vibes. Creamy, well-seasoned, and the spaghetti maintains that crucial al dente texture.

Grilled Chicken Chop with 2 Sides – $7.70

For those avoiding fried options, 115 Ho Jiak Western Cuisine offers solid grilled alternatives. You get three sauce choices: black pepper, mushroom, or brown sauce. We went for black pepper – robust without being overwhelming.

The mac and cheese side was pretty cheesy. The sautéed garlic mushrooms were earthy and juicy.

For an extra dollar, they offered mushroom soup. Expected tinned soup quality but got something thick with mushroom bits throughout. Legit for a hawker stall.

Salmon with Aglio Olio – $11.50

The salmon portion surprised me. Two generous skin-on fillets arrived perfectly cooked. Crispy skin, flaky meat with those omega-3 rich fats melting on the tongue. The aglio olio complemented beautifully – fragrant garlic without excess oil.

What Could Be Better

Not everything hits the mark. The butter rice lacks personality – subtle butter fragrance, minimal flavour impact.

The mentaiko fries ($5) come drenched in sauce but the mentaiko flavour isn’t very strong. The fries themselves aren’t particularly crispy. Decent for sharing but can get cloying quickly.

Final Verdict

115 Ho Jiak Western Cuisine nails the value proposition with genuinely generous portions—the XL chicken cutlet lives up to its name and is a steal at $8.90. Everything is made-to-order, yet waiting times stay reasonable even during peak lunch hours, thanks to the two efficient and friendly ladies running the stall like clockwork.

I won’t claim to know every western stall in Punggol, but this one sets a high bar. Generous portions, fair prices, and solid execution make it our go-to whenever western cravings strike. If you’re working around Punggol or popping by One Punggol Hawker Centre, 115 Ho Jiak Western Cuisine is well worth a try.
