I had a serious sourdough craving in JB. Then we stumbled on Bluer House Cafe in JB Old Town, and it specialises in exactly that. It sits a short walk from Holiday Inn JBCC, where we stayed. Fate? I think so.
First Impressions of Bluer House Cafe
We popped by for a weekday brunch. The cafe feels small and cosy, with limited seating. Only a couple of other diners sat inside, so we grabbed a table easily.
How Ordering Works
- Grab a seat: Staff hand you a menu.
- Head to the counter: Order and pay there.
- Sit back: They bring everything to your table.
- Free water: Help yourself at the water station.
What We Ordered at Bluer House Cafe
Cold Brew Coffee (RM13)
Strong, bold, no nonsense. Exactly how hubby likes it. Fancy something prettier? Other diners went for the speciality drinks, and they look very Instagram-friendly.
Balsamic Grilled Chicken (RM25, whole)
Herby grilled chicken breast, balsamic glaze, Mediterranean sauce, mixed greens, tomato and mozzarella. The bread wins me over first. Crispy outside, slightly chewy inside. My kind of bread.
The fillings sound ordinary on paper. The balsamic glaze changes that. It adds a refreshing kick and mild acidity without going too tangy. The filling-to-bread ratio works too. Good sourdough deserves the spotlight, and nothing here smothers it.
Apple Grilled Cheese (RM25, whole)
Brie, vintage cheddar, mozzarella, grilled apple, walnut nibs and wild honey. Apple and cheese? Trust me, it works. Sweet meets salty in the best way. Very appetising. I loved every bite.
Note: Prices are exclusive of the 10% service charge.
Is Bluer House Cafe Worth It?
- Price: RM25 for a whole sandwich feels fair.
- Portions: Reasonable. Not too hungry? Order half sizes and share.
- Service: Friendly and relaxed.
I’m a bread person. I can eat bread any time of day, haha. So yes, I’ll happily return to Bluer House Cafe for another sourdough fix.
