Cat In The Hat at Golden Mile Food Centre: Affordable French Pastries Worth the Trip

During our staycation at PARKROYAL on Beach Road, we decided to take a short walk to Golden Mile Food Centre. I had been eyeing Cat In The Hat for a while — a hawker-centre bakery and patisserie run by a former hotel pastry chef. Finally had the chance to try it since we were in the area.

First Impressions of Cat In The Hat

The stall is tiny. But don’t let that fool you — the selection is actually quite decent. Hubby immediately said to just get one of everything, but that felt like too much. We narrowed it down to seven items. Here’s the honest breakdown.

What We Ordered at Cat In The Hat

Cat In The Hat at Golden Mile Food Centre - Chocolate Ganache Tart

Chocolate Ganache Tart — $3

Light, thin, crispy crust — almost biscuit-like. The ganache is thick, chocolatey, and not too sweet. Simple and well-executed.

Rum & Raisin Madeleine — $2.50

The raisins are soaked in rum and you can definitely taste it — but it’s not overpowering at all. Nicely balanced.

Salted Caramel Macadamia Financier — $3.80

So much macadamia piled on top. The crunch is satisfying. The salted caramel adds that salty-sweet kick. What really stands out is the texture — the caramelised brown exterior is chewy while the inside stays soft. Easily my favourite of all the financiers.

Pistachio Financier — $4

Nutty and sweet. That same caramelised brown exterior makes it even better. Loved it.

Yakgwa Financier — $4

Yakgwa is a Korean deep-fried honey cookie — and it works really well here. The top cookie is a little hard to bite into but so fragrant. Gives the financier a firm, crunchy contrast.

Oolong Longan Financier — $3.80

Whole longans give it a good chew. The oolong tea fragrance comes through nicely and really stands out.

Fig Tart — $5.50

Dried fig slices on a crispy biscuit-like crust, baked till deeply golden. Tasted something sweet in there — possibly honey. Liked this one.

Overall Thoughts on Cat In The Hat

Honestly, these are the best financiers I’ve had in Singapore so far. The texture is spot on — not dry, just right. Every single one is fragrant and has that beautiful caramelised bite on the outside. You don’t get this quality at this price point very often.

Cat In The Hat makes proper French pastries accessible to everyone — atas treats at hawker prices. If you’re in the Golden Mile area, this is a must-visit. Can’t wait to go back and try more items.
