Galet was literally next door to our hotel in Brussels. We spotted it on day one whilst exploring the area – just a minute’s walk away. Perfect for a breakfast stop one morning.
The Coffee at Galet
We went for a regular coffee (€3) and a Macchiato (€4.80). Right off the bat, both were pretty acidic for my taste. Hubby didn’t mind it though, so really depends on what you like.
But here’s what I loved – Galet served the coffee on a tray with these adorable mini waffles on the side. What a lovely bonus touch.
Galet Poulet & Avocat Sandwich
Their sandwiches run from €10 to €13.50. This one’s basically chicken and avocado. Definitely big enough to split between two people.
The menu said it comes with yoghurt, red onions and mint. When we ordered, the staff mentioned there’s pesto in the sandwich and checked if we were okay with that. We were fine – hubby’s a massive pesto fan anyway.
How It Tastes
This savoury sandwich gets toasted in a waffle iron at Galet. Makes it look like a waffle on the outside, but it’s actually proper bread like a baguette. Crispy exterior, nice bread texture inside. The ratio of fillings to bread is excellent – really packed with ingredients. Loads of chicken slices, avocado, onions. Nice pesto fragrance coming through. Tastes really refreshing.
Chocolate Sticks Liège Waffle (€5.95)
The chocolate’s inside the waffle with icing sugar dusted on top. I liked this version better than Maison Dandoy’s Liège waffle because Galet browns the outside more.
Very crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside. The chocolate quality is good – rich and a little sweet but not overwhelming.
Worth Visiting Galet?
Overall, Galet is a nice place to chill in. The staff are friendly too. Would recommend popping by if you’re in the area. 🙂
