So here’s the story — hubby’s colleague had tried Hakuba Pizza with his family and told us it wasn’t bad, so we thought, why not, let’s give it a go while we’re in Hakuba too. We decided on takeaway for dinner and pre-ordered the day before.
How We Ordered from Hakuba Pizza
Ordering was pretty fuss-free. We went to their website and clicked the takeout button, which redirects you to TableCheck. From there, we just placed our order and chose our preferred collection time for the next day. If you’re not into online ordering, you can also just call them up.

Where to Find Hakuba Pizza
Hakuba Pizza is located on the second floor of Hakuba Gateway Hotel. During peak winter season, they’re generally open 7 days a week. But heads up — during off-season, they only open on limited, select days. So if you happen to be in Hakuba outside of ski season, do check their Facebook page for the latest opening hours before heading down.
The Pickup Experience
We picked a 5:30pm collection slot and arrived right on time. But our order wasn’t ready. We ended up sitting and waiting around for another 20–25 minutes. Feels like they only start preparing your order when you show up?
What made it worse — the staff were pretty lukewarm and didn’t bother telling us how much longer we had to wait. We were just left sitting by the entrance area, twiddling our thumbs. And when the food finally came out, it was handed over without so much as a word of apology for the wait. Customer service was really not it. Not welcoming at all, tbh.
What We Ordered at Hakuba Pizza
Hakuba Special Pizza (Large) — ¥3,500
Comes with pepperoni, bacon, capsicum, roasted Japanese mushrooms, pineapple, olives, and cheese. We picked this flavour because the toppings sounded really hearty on paper. But when the actual pizza arrived… didn’t quite feel that way.
Honestly? The Domino’s Supreme Pizza we get back home in Singapore looks way more loaded and sumptuous than this one.
- Crust: Rather bready around the edges and soggy in the middle. I guess that’s kind of inevitable with takeaway — probably tastes better hot and fresh dining in.
- Taste: Decent, nothing really to shout about.
Beef Lasagna (Serves 2) — ¥3,400
Comes with beef bolognese, béchamel, and cheese. I’m guessing that during peak ski season, they get overwhelmed with orders, so this beef lasagna was probably pre-assembled and just popped into the oven before we collected it.
Because honestly, it tasted just like a lasagna you’d grab from the frozen section of a supermarket. For a beef lasagna at this price point, I really wasn’t expecting this kind of quality. Super disappointed, to be honest.
I wouldn’t even be surprised if this lasagna wasn’t made fresh in-house and actually came from a frozen packet that got reheated — because it really tasted like it. One of the worst beef lasagnas we’ve ever had. Lacklustre taste, mediocre ingredients. Even the cheese on top didn’t taste like proper mozzarella. The whole recipe just felt off.
Final Thoughts: Would We Return?
Needless to say, this was our first and last time eating at Hakuba Pizza. Just goes to show that taste is subjective — even when something comes highly recommended by word of mouth.
Besides Cafe Cubanos Hakuba that I shared about earlier, this was the second worst meal we had during our week in Hakuba. And very overpriced too. If the food had been good, we probably wouldn’t have minded paying more. But in this case? Really not worth it at all.
Thank goodness we only had two such meals in an entire week — otherwise the trip would’ve been utterly depressing. Sorry Hakuba Pizza, you’re just not our cup of tea. 🙁
