What The Puff! Review: Punggol’s Best Curry Puffs

What The Puff! at Punggol Coast Hawker Centre serves curry puffs that’ll make you travel across Singapore just for a bite. My husband and I first tried two puffs here and loved them so much, we returned for lunch and packed a box for tea time.

Small batches only, so you’ll catch the curry puff–making action at the back—fresh and hot every time!

There’s a legend so you know which one is which, and it’s also printed on the box cover for easy reference.

Five Flavours, All Winners

What The Puff! offers five flavours. I bought one of each.

The staff asked if I wanted box or bag packaging. I chose box, which kept everything intact perfectly.

Original Curry Puff

The crust hits that sweet spot. Not too thick, not too thin. It wraps around the plump filling beautifully. The filling-to-crust ratio is fantastic. Every bite delivers satisfaction and flavour.

The curry packs more spice than Old Chang Kee’s. I prefer this version. More kick, more shiok. Each puff comes with a wedge of hard-boiled egg.

Cheesy Curry

Same filling as Original but loaded with mozzarella cheese. Bite into it and watch the cheese pull.

Original is good, but cheese takes it to another level. Perfect for cheese lovers. This one’s my favourite alongside the black pepper.

Char Siew Chicken

Tastes like char siew bao transformed into puff form. Sweet and salty, leaning more savoury. Very meaty filling with egg inside too.

Sardine

The filling looks as red as the char siew chicken. Reddest sardine puff I’ve ever seen, honestly. Pretty spicy with serious kick. You can taste actual chunks of sardine meat.

Black Pepper Chicken

My absolute favourite. Very meaty bite. The black pepper flavour shines without overwhelming your taste buds. Comes with egg too.

Why What The Puff! Stands Out

All puffs taste fresh because they’re made continuously. The oil tastes clean and fresh. Even though fried, these puffs don’t ooze oil or feel heavy. They fry constantly to ensure fresh batches. High turnover means you’ll never get puffs sitting out too long.

The Punggol Coast location brings high foot traffic. For the price, What The Puff! offers incredible value. They don’t skimp on ingredients.

What The Puff! is now my number one spot for curry puffs in Singapore. Worth the journey to Punggol, guaranteed.
