XW Western Grill with its all-you-can-eat salad bar first caught my eye on RedNote and I couldn’t resist checking it out. Total throwback to those Sizzler and Ponderosa days, right? Hidden in the bustling basement of Raffles City, this spot seems to be getting quite the buzz for its combo of Western mains and unlimited salad bar.
If you’re hunting for value-for-money Western food in Singapore, XW Western Grill might just be your next regular haunt. Let’s tuck in, shall we?
Multiple Locations Across Singapore
Beyond the Raffles City outlet where I visited, XW Western Grill has strategically positioned itself across the island:
- Raffles City (City Hall)
- JEM (Jurong East)
- Changi Airport Terminal 2
- Northpoint City (Yishun)
- Century Square (Tampines)
This wide coverage makes XW Western Grill accessible regardless of where you’re based in Singapore. Brilliant for when that Western food craving strikes!
The Star of the Show: All-You-Can-Eat Salad Bar
OK let’s be honest – the unlimited salad bar is what we’re all really here for, right? It’s what makes XW Western Grill stand out from your typical Western food joints. Order any main and boom – free access to their buffet-style salad and sides bar!
The selection isn’t massive but definitely enough to get excited about. During my visit, here’s what I loaded onto my plate:
Cold Section
- Fresh greens and cherry tomatoes (nothing fancy but fresh enough)
- A few pre-mixed salads (decent pasta salad, standard coleslaw)
- Fresh fruits
Hot Section
- Mashed potatoes
- Onion rings
- Sweet potato fries
- Sauteed mushrooms
- Creamed spinach
- Truffle oil spaghetti
- & more
The mashed potatoes was creamy and the onion rings were pretty enjoyable when freshly replenished. Some items like the sweet potato fries were kind of meh as they seemed to have been sitting out for too long.
They’ve got various dressings and sauces too. Spotted rojak sauce which was a bit random – couldn’t figure out what to pair it with.
Western Mains: How Do They Stack Up?
So the mains are basically your ticket to salad bar heaven, but are they any good on their own? I tried a few during my visits:
Chicken Options
Chargrilled Chicken with Creamy Mushroom Sauce ($14.90)
The hubby went for this classic. The boneless chicken leg was actually pretty good – juicy with a nice smoky char. But the mushroom sauce? Meh. Bit bland and lacking that rich mushroom flavour I was hoping for. Fries were standard kopitiam-western-stall level crispy. Nothing special but did the job.
Chargrilled Chicken with Tom Yum Sauce ($14.90)
This was my pick – wanted something different from the usual black pepper or mushroom options. Best decision! The chicken was just as good as the other version, but that Tom Yum sauce? Winner! Had that perfect tangy-spicy kick that reminded me so much of the Tom Yum pasta at 49 Seats.
Truffle Aburi Chicken Chop ($15.90)
Tried this on another visit – it started as a limited-time thing but must’ve been popular because now it’s a permanent menu item. The truffle flavour actually comes through nicely, making it way more interesting than the mushroom sauce version. Worth the extra dollar!
Seafood Options
Chargrilled Salmon Steak ($19.90)
My mum’s exact words when this arrived: “Wah, so small ah?” Legit tiny portion compared to the chicken dishes, haha. The salmon was just okay. Flaky texture but on the dry side. Still a decent option for fish lovers or those seeking healthier choices.
*All prices are subject to 10% service charge and 9% GST
Value for Money
So is it worth it? In Singapore where Western food options range from hawker stalls to high-end steakhouses, XW Western Grill positions itself as a solid mid-range option with the salad bar giving it an edge.
At $14.90-$24.90 for most mains (plus the unlimited salad bar), it offers good value, especially for big eaters. My husband keeps coming back before his triathlon training days to carb-load on pasta and mashed potatoes, lol.
Is XW Western Grill Worth the Visit?
This place isn’t going to blow your mind with gourmet flavours, but it doesn’t pretend to be fine dining either. What you get is reliable Western food with that awesome unlimited salad bar bonus.
Got a big appetite? On a budget? Taking the family out? XW Western Grill makes sense. I’ve been back multiple times now, which says something.
XW Western Grill with its all-you-can-eat salad bar brings back that nostalgic buffet experience many of us miss. Not perfect, but definitely worth adding to your casual dining rotation in Singapore.
