Yugoslavia Bakery & Cafe: A Hidden Gem at CityLink Mall

Yugoslavia Bakery & Cafe popped up on my Yindii app whilst browsing during a staycation at Pullman Singapore Hill Street. I’d never tried their bakes before, so when I saw a surprise bakery bag available at their CityLink outlet, I decided to give it a go.

If you’re interested to sign up for Yindii and do your part to help reduce food waste, download the app. Enter code NWAU8H1R in the Referral Code field on the checkout page for your first order. You’ll receive $2 Yindii credits once your first order is successfully completed.

Collection was straightforward. The items were pre-packed in pizza boxes on a table. I showed my order to the lady boss, swiped right to confirm, and grabbed my box. Simple as that.

Before leaving, my husband spotted other items he wanted. We peeked into our surprise box to check for duplicates, then bought the Spinach and Feta Cheese Burek and Yogurt Dark Chocolate Cake separately.

The Surprise Bag Experience

Our $10 surprise bag from Yugoslavia Bakery contained seven assorted items. Brilliant value, honestly.

What’s Inside the Yugoslavia Bakery Surprise Bag

Pogacha Chocolate – This Yugoslavian round loaf looks like a rose. Made with fresh milk and eggs, filled with dark chocolate. The texture sits somewhere between bread and Danish pastry. The outside’s crispy, unlike the flaky, airy texture you’d expect from Danish pastries.

Pogacha Cinnamon – Same concept as the chocolate version but with cinnamon filling. Similar texture and equally satisfying.

Cheese Burek – The feta cheese flavour really comes through here. The texture’s hard to describe. Imagine phyllo dough meeting pizza dough, with an inside that tastes like lasagne. Unique combination. I loved it because cheese makes everything better.

Proja – A savoury corn flour muffin. Crumbly texture, really good. You don’t see savoury muffins often at bakeries in Singapore, so this was refreshing.

Yogurt Muffin – Topped with chocolate chips. Standard but nice.

Burek Sticks – We got one regular and one mini size. These were our absolute favourites. Crispy phyllo pastry on the outside, creamy and savoury filling inside. Not entirely sure what the filling was, but it worked brilliantly. We’ll definitely grab these again on our next visit to Yugoslavia Bakery.

Items We Bought Separately

Spinach and Feta Cheese Burek ($5.90) – Filo pastry with a lasagne-like filling. Pretty good stuff.

Yogurt Dark Chocolate Cake ($3.90) – This was on promotion. Eggless, chocolatey, not overly sweet. The texture’s on the drier side, but it still tastes nice. Feels healthy too, if that matters.

Worth Visiting Yugoslavia Bakery?

Absolutely. This bakery’s a proper gem. The bakes at Yugoslavia Bakery & Cafe are completely different from your usual bakery fare in Singapore. It’s refreshing to try something new.

The surprise bag was excellent value at $10 for the variety and quality. I appreciated how they packed everything neatly in the pizza box instead of stuffing items into a carrier bag like some bakeries do. Just remember to bring your own bag as they don’t provide one.

Prices are very reasonable compared to other bakeries in the area. If you’re looking for something different from the standard bakery offerings, Yugoslavia Bakery deserves a visit.
