A Taste of Nature: Birds of Paradise Gelato Boutique in Singapore

As a dessert lover, I am always on the lookout for unique and exciting flavours. That’s why I was excited to try the gelato at Birds of Paradise.

Birds of Paradise Gelato Boutique is an artisanal gelato shop known for its unique and innovative flavours inspired by botanicals and nature. Their gelato is made with natural ingredients and botanical flavours, which are carefully curated to create a one-of-a-kind experience for their customers. They have an extensive range of flavours that are inspired by nature and its botanical wonders, which make them stand out from other gelato shops. Examples of their flavours include Strawberry Basil, Osmanthus Pear, Lemongrass Ginger, Pandan, Peach & Rose, and many more.

Locations

In addition to the branch we visited at Jewel Changi Airport, Birds of Paradise can be found at East Coast Road, Craig Road, and Beach Road.

For more information on the locations and operating hours of their boutiques, please refer to their website here.

We visited Birds of Paradise three times and sampled the following flavours:

White Chrysanthemum

The White Chrysanthemum flavour was a novel one that I had never tried before. It had a floral taste that was delicate and subtle, but still refreshing. The gelato itself was light and creamy, and not overly sweet. I must admit, the fragrant chrysanthemum really added a unique touch to the overall flavour. I also liked the cacao nibs in it as they provided a satisfying crunch.

Sea Salt Hojicha

The Sea Salt Hojicha is a delicious combination of roasted green tea and sea salt. The roasted green tea, or hojicha, provides a nutty and smoky taste, while the saltiness adds a nice balance to the overall flavor.

Strawberry Basil

The Strawberry Basil had a lovely pink hue and was made with real strawberries and fresh basil. It had a refreshing taste that was nicely balanced with a subtle hint of basil. The tangy sweetness of the strawberries was not overpowering and the slight herbaceous flavour of the basil added a delightful freshness.

Vanilla Fig

The Vanilla Fig had a smooth and velvety texture with a rich, sweet flavour of vanilla and fig. The vanilla flavour was prominent like any other regular vanilla ice cream, and it paired well with the sweet fig. Compared to the other flavours, it was not as unique or exciting, but it would be a good choice for people who prefer classic vanilla flavours.

Lemongrass Ginger

The Lemongrass Ginger gelato had a light and refreshing texture with a subtle lemongrass taste and a hint of ginger spice. The lemongrass flavour wasn’t too strong, but it gave the gelato a nice citrusy taste. The ginger spice was mild, but it added a bit of warmth to the overall flavour. It reminded me of my vacation in Bali where I enjoyed drinking Lemongrass Ginger tea!

Osmanthus Pear Sorbet

This had a light and icy texture that was incredibly refreshing, perfect for a hot day. It was delicate and sweet with a hint of floral notes from the osmanthus flower. If you prefer lighter and fruitier ice cream, then this would be a great choice.

Spiced Pear

The Spiced Pear gelato had a creamy texture and a warm blend of spices that complemented the sweetness of the pear. The spices were not too strong, but they added a nice depth of flavour to the gelato. The pear flavour was prominent but not overly sweet, which allowed the spices to stand out. I also noticed some bits of pear flesh in the gelato, which added to its texture.

Peach & Rose Sorbet

The Peach & Rose Sorbet had a gentle floral taste and a refreshing and light texture. The sweetness of the peach was nicely balanced by the floral notes of the rose, which created an elegant and sophisticated flavour. It was really enjoyable!

Masala Spice

This gelato had a smooth and creamy texture with a combination of warm spices that created a sweet and slightly spicy taste. The spices were not too strong, but they added a great depth of flavour to the gelato. If you enjoy bold and flavourful spices, then you should definitely try this.

Final thoughts

I really enjoyed the unique and refreshing flavours that Birds of Paradise offers. Their approach to gelato flavours is creative and innovative, and I was impressed by their careful selection of botanical-inspired tastes. Whether you try the Peach & Rose Sorbet or the White Chrysanthemum flavour, every scoop is an adventure in taste. I highly recommend giving their gelato a try to see which flavour is your favourite!
