Comfort Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi Review: Free Breakfast, Near Station

After enjoying a delicious mont blanc soft serve at 栗りん Kurin and exploring Osu Shopping Street, the sky turned dark fast. Sunset hits around 5pm during Nagoya winters, so we called it a day, grabbed some food from Lawson, and headed back to Comfort Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi for check-in. Spoiler alert: this little hotel near Nagoya Station ended up being one of the best-value stays we’ve had in Japan.

We booked our 4-night stay via Booking.com for approximately ¥74,290 (just under S$600, averaging S$150 per night). For Japan standards during peak winter season, that’s a solid deal. I’ve spotted rates dipping under S$100 per night during the low season, so if affordability is your thing, keep this one bookmarked.

Now, let’s see whether Comfort Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi actually delivers on the value. Starting with the location.

Comfort Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi: Unbeatable Location Near Nagoya Station

Comfort Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi sits just a 4-minute flat walk from Exit E7 of Nagoya Station. Exit E7 is an underground exit tucked inside the ESCA Underground Shopping Center, on the Shinkansen (bullet train) side of the station.

One thing to note: that 4-minute walk only applies from Exit E7. Nagoya Station is massive. If you’re connecting to the Meitetsu or Kintetsu lines, expect a longer trek from the west to the east end of the station.

We mostly relied on the subway to get around Nagoya, so popping in and out of the hotel was effortless. The neighbourhood itself feels safe, calm and easy, surrounded by convenience stores (Lawson, FamilyMart and 7-Eleven), cafes and restaurants. You get the convenience of being central, minus the bustling crowds and noise.

Checking In at Comfort Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi

Step inside and you won’t find a grand lobby. It’s modern, functional and highly efficient. Automated self-service touch-screen kiosks handle check-in and check-out, supporting multiple languages for hassle-free payment and key collection. Need help? Front desk staff are right there, always smiling, polite and quick to assist.

To your right, there’s a self-serve coffee machine and access to the Comfort Library Cafe, where breakfast is served daily. Tea and lemon-infused water are available all day. It’s a cosy, modern lounge space, perfect if you want to get some work done or chill outside your room.

The Amenity Hub: Sustainability Done Right

While waiting for the lift, I spotted a shelf stocked with pyjamas (one-size-fits-all), shaving kits and combs. This is the hotel’s “Amenity Hub”.

One thing I genuinely love about Japanese hospitality: they value sustainability without skimping on comfort. Instead of stocking rooms with single-use plastics, you grab only what you need from the lobby.

There’s also a Free Rental Items menu with things like:

  • Extra pillows
  • Sewing kit
  • Umbrella
  • Humidifier
  • Ice pillow
  • Nail clippers
  • HDMI adapter

Standard Twin Room - Comfort Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi

Standard Twin Room - Comfort Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi

Inside Our Room: Small but Smart

We were assigned Room 1008, a Standard Twin Room. The whole hotel is non-smoking, by the way.

I expected a tight, cramped space because Japanese business hotels are famously compact. But our Twin Room hit the sweet spot: cosy and cleverly designed. There were two comfortable single beds with individual headboard niches and a standalone wall aircon unit for personal climate control. A writing desk and two chairs sealed the deal, perfect for laptop work and snacking on konbini hauls.

The beds were comfy with good support. The pillows, however, were too flat for my liking, so I requested extra pillows to stack. Easy fix.

Clever Design Touches

The wall-mounted slim TV console hides a wooden cabinet that swings open into a three-way vanity mirror with built-in LED strip lights. Brilliant for doing makeup or picking spots, haha.

The wardrobe holds hangers, a luggage stand and fabric spray. Right next to it sits a compact counter with an electric kettle, mugs, glasses, and instant Ito En green tea packets. A mini-fridge tucks neatly beneath. There’s also a full-length mirror by the door and a window that lets in natural daylight.

The bathroom was spotlessly clean, with a bathtub and a curved curtain rod (giving you extra elbow room in the shower). You’ll find:

  • Full-sized pump bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash
  • Foaming face/hand soap
  • Toothbrushes and hairdryer
  • A TOTO electronic toilet with an English operations guide on the wall

Comfort Library Cafe - Comfort Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi

Free Food & Drink at the Comfort Library Cafe

Honestly, the Comfort Library Cafe might be the biggest money-saver of staying here. The space looks like a hip, modern bookstore-cafe with gorgeous wood-slatted ceilings, trailing green plant walls and cosy seating.

Welcome drinks at Comfort Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi

All-Day Welcome Drinks

From 10am to midnight daily, guests get free welcome drinks. Help yourself to the coffee machine, lemon-infused water, or teas like their Bergamot Peach tea. It quickly became my afternoon ritual.

Comfort Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi Breakfast

The Daily Breakfast Buffet (Complimentary!)

Every guest gets a free breakfast buffet served from 6:30am to 9:30am. Honestly, this was the highlight of our stay. The food was so good we genuinely looked forward to it every morning.

The spread rotates slightly each day, but expect:

  • Salad bar (shredded cabbage, potato salad, burdock salad, sweet corn)
  • Scrambled eggs
  • Mini sausages, meatballs and dumplings
  • Pasta
  • Croissants and bread rolls
  • Hot soups

Pro-Tip: When you find a table, grab the red “OCCUPIED” (利用中) card and pop it on your table. This lets other guests know the seat is taken while you load your plate. Cute yellow ducky kids’ plates and mugs are available for the little ones too.

Handy Facilities at Comfort Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi 2nd Floor

The 2nd floor houses a facilities room with coin-operated washing machines, an ice dispenser (free to use) and a drink vending machine. A total lifesaver if you’re travelling light or backpacking through Japan.

One day we left the Do Not Disturb sign on and forgot to request housekeeping. We asked for new towels, and the housekeeper placed them in a laundry bag and hung them outside our door. By the time we got back, fresh towels were waiting. Thoughtful and seamless.

Final Verdict: Is Comfort Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi Worth It?

If you’re hunting for where to stay in Nagoya near the train station without blowing your budget, Comfort Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi gets a solid 10/10 from me.

For a highly reasonable room rate, you get an immaculate modern room, free all-day coffee and tea, a fresh and delicious daily breakfast buffet, and premium amenities just steps from the Shinkansen platform. Whether you’re travelling solo, as a couple or with family, the value here is hard to beat. I’d absolutely book Comfort Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi again on my next Nagoya trip!
