If you’ve been hunting for the best cakes in Nagoya on RedNote (Xiaohongshu), HARBS would’ve popped up on your feed more times than you can count. That’s exactly how it landed on my Nagoya to-try list. After a heavy late lunch at Unagi Unayasu Nishiki, my tastebuds were begging for something sweet, so off we went to the HARBS Sakae Main Store, the original flagship.
The Queue Situation at HARBS Sakae
Heads up: there are two separate queues—one for takeout and one for dine-in. Don’t be that tourist standing in the wrong line. Staff will come over to ask your group size.
We waited about 20–25 minutes on a weekday at 3:30pm, and the place was still packed. Word on the street is that weekend and lunch peak waits can stretch beyond an hour. Plan accordingly unless queuing is your idea of a holiday.
Quick Tip Before You Order
- Each diner must order at least one drink—no sharing allowed.
- Menu comes in English and Japanese, so ordering is painless.
- Once you order, staff bring wet towels and water.
What We Ordered at HARBS
Yuzu Sencha Iced (¥900)
Unsweetened and refreshing, but honestly the yuzu was barely there. The tea flavour dominated. Still a decent palate cleanser.
Keemun Earl Grey Hot (¥950)
Tastes exactly like your regular Earl Grey. Nothing wild, nothing wrong.
Irish Cream Cheesecake (¥950)
Thin biscuit crust, dense and properly cheesy middle, and a Baileys-infused cream topping that’s whisper-mild but lifts the whole slice.
The texture hit our sweet spot.
Mille Crepe (¥1,050)
This is the HARBS signature—a must-order.
My first time having mille crepe layered with assorted fresh fruit, and wow:
- Banana, strawberry, rock melon, and kiwi—all sweet and fresh
- Soft, creamy layers that aren’t cloying
- Refreshing right down to the last bite
Beyond the Cakes
HARBS isn’t just desserts. They also serve omurice, pastas, and sandwiches. Check their website for the full menu if you fancy a proper meal.
Final Verdict on HARBS Nagoya
The cakes are genuinely good, the environment is lovely, and service is solid despite the crowd. But is it mind-blowing enough to queue an hour for? Honestly, no. Nagoya has plenty of other excellent dessert spots worth your time.
That said, if I lived in Nagoya and needed a whole cake for a birthday or celebration, HARBS would absolutely be on my takeaway shortlist. Skip the queue, grab a whole cake, enjoy at home—that’s the move.
