Kwason Boulangerie Penang – Worth the Walk from the Cruise Terminal

In my earlier blog post, I shared what we got up to during our few hours in Penang — our cruise ship had docked there as part of a 4-night Penang and Phuket cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas. So we had limited time and wanted to make the most of it.

That adorable croissant on the signboard makes the café impossible to miss 🥐

I found Kwason Boulangerie on Google Maps while searching for cafés within walking distance from the cruise terminal. After picking up food gifts from Ghee Hiang, we walked further down Beach Street and that’s where we found Kwason.

You can tell the owner is passionate about croissants—the hanging croissant light is such a charming touch.

First Impressions

Nice little café. Quiet, peaceful, and most importantly, air-conditioned. It was so hot and sunny outside that stepping into Kwason felt like a proper relief. The staff were friendly, the vibe was chill. Exactly the kind of place you want to duck into for a break mid-itinerary.

One thing to note: there’s more seating at the back, but it runs warmer. If you want to stay cool, grab a spot near the front counter — noticeably cooler there.

What We Ordered

Kwason Boulangerie Penang

Iced mocha on the left, iced Americano on the right.

Drinks

We went with an Iced Americano (RM12) and an Iced Mocha (RM16). Both were not bad — smooth brews, and the Americano wasn’t acidic at all, which I appreciated.

Pastries

Kwason Boulangerie Penang

Pistachio Raisin Croissant — RM17

Pistachio paste and raisins inside. The croissant itself was really good — buttery, airy, with a nice crispy exterior. One of the highlights for me.

Kwason Boulangerie Penang - Kouign Amann

Sea Salt Kouign Amann — RM15

Crispy and buttery, not overly sweet. Just the right balance — satisfying without being jelak.

Kwason Boulangerie Penang - Ham and Cheese Croissant

Ham and Cheese Croissant — RM17

Crispy and airy, with chicken ham, cheese, and a sprinkle of black pepper on top. I especially loved the top part — super crunchy. Really nice.

Overall Verdict

All in all, we enjoyed everything. The pastries were delicious, the coffee was solid, and the café itself is a great spot to take a breather from the Penang heat. If you’re visiting Penang — whether on a cruise stopover or otherwise — I’d definitely recommend popping by Kwason Boulangerie on Beach Street.
