Stumbled upon Loudons Edinburgh on our very first day in the city, while lugging bags from the carpark to our aparthotel. The cafe sits right behind Aparthotel Adagio Edinburgh Royal Mile, and since breakfast wasn’t included in our stay, I made a mental note. A few mornings later, we rocked up here for brekkie before heading off to Dean Village. Verdict? Glad we did.
The Vibe at Loudons Edinburgh
Loudons is a family-run cafe with two outposts in town: New Waverley (the one we visited) and Fountainbridge. The space is bright, lively, and properly spacious. There’s a joyful, buzzy energy that makes you want to linger over a second coffee.
The all-day breakfast menu covers all the classics and more:
- Full Scottish Breakfast
- French toast and pancakes
- Bowls, salads, and creative eggs benedict
- Vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free, and gluten-free options
A good pick for groups with mixed dietary needs. Check their latest menu here.
What We Ordered at Loudons Edinburgh
Coffees
Kicked things off with an Americano and a Cappuccino. Nothing fancy, nothing flashy — just solid, well-made coffee to wake the brain up. Exactly what you want before a big breakfast.
Korean Beef Brisket Bennys
Didn’t expect a Korean twist on the menu, but here we are. Served with kimchi spiced cabbage, pickled carrot, poached eggs, and gochujang hollandaise.
The homemade kimchi has a lovely tang and proper crunch. The hollandaise carries enough gochujang punch without going overboard, and it pairs beautifully with the tender brisket.
Add those runny yolks and you’ve got a banger of a plate. Easily the standout.
Brioche French Toast
Comes with smoked streaky bacon, maple syrup, and crystalised pecans. Honestly, I’d have liked the brioche to soak up more egg custard, but the flavours still hit.
Think pancakes-meets-maple-syrup, just in brioche form. The smoky bacon brings that sweet-savoury magic, and the candied pecans add a brilliant nutty crunch.
Rhubarb & Custard Tart
Couldn’t leave without grabbing something sweet.
The rhubarb turned out to be jam (not fresh, as I’d hoped) under a smooth custard layer. Not overly sweet, which I appreciated. The bottom crust, however, was rock-solid — needed a bit of elbow grease with the fork.
Final Thoughts on Loudons Edinburgh
Not mind-blowing, but a solid brunch spot with creative eggs benedict riffs. The kind of cafe I’d happily make my regular if I lived nearby — perfect for catch-ups with mates or knocking out remote work over coffee. If you’re staying near the Royal Mile, swing by Loudons Edinburgh. You won’t regret it.
