Relax and Unwind at Nanbin Park – A Breath of Fresh Air in Hualien

The Pacific Ocean Park (Nanbin Park & Beibin Park) is a coastal park in Hualien that is well-known for its scenic views of the Pacific Ocean and the breathtaking sunsets that can be seen from the park.

This park is ideal for people who want to engage in a variety of outdoor activities. We saw cyclists and runners, as well as people strolling along the beach and fishing. Others were simply relaxing and admiring the stunning views of the ocean and surrounding landscapes.

And when you turn around, you’ll be rewarded with a stunning mountainscape view too.

这里真的是好山好水好风景!

Pacific Ocean Park is made up of Beibin Park and Nanbin Park

The Pacific Ocean Park is divided into two sections: the north shore (Beibin Park) and the south shore (Nanbin Park), which we spent the most time exploring. Nanbin Park was created and built along the Nanbin coastline, preserving the original natural landscape. You can see the entire Pacific Ocean from here. This is the place to go if you want some fresh air and open space.

Before sunset, you can ride a bike and stroll along the beach. In the evening, this park will transform into an ideal spot to enjoy the sound of the waves and to gaze at the stars.

Slow pace of life

I’ve noticed a slower pace of life in Hualien. It is not as commercially developed as other cities, but it has all of the necessary amenities and conveniences. When you see some locals, they will not hesitate to invite you to tea. Taiwanese people are very polite and friendly. Saying ‘ni hao’ to strangers is nothing out of the ordinary.

Nanbin Park Hualien

I have grown to love Taiwan, particularly Hualien. It’s the perfect place to be if you want to be right in the centre of nature, with beaches on one side and mountains on the other. I even told my husband that I hope to retire in Hualien someday, lol.

We walked towards Beibin Park (South shore). Stopped by this pavilion (忘憂亭) to take some pictures.

From where we were, we could see the south shore.

See that red lighthouse in the distance? It’s called the Hualien Harbour Lighthouse.

We didn’t walk all the way to the end of Beibin Park because we turned left onto Zhongshan Road, which led to the Dongdamen Night Market.

Final thoughts

We highly recommend you to visit Nanbin Park in the late afternoon. Stroll along the beach, taking in the sea breeze and the sounds of the waves. Maybe catch the sunset as well. Following that, you can walk to the nearby Dongdamen Night Market for street food and other activities.
