After our morning visit to the JORVIK Viking Centre, we were already feeling hungry since we hadn’t eaten breakfast. So we decided to pop into The Old York Tea Room for a bite.
How It Works
You order and pay downstairs at the counter, then head upstairs to grab a seat. The dining area is really small—can fit about 14 people at one time. We were lucky to snag a table for two, as a couple was leaving just as we walked in.
Menus for savouries and drinks are written up on the board. As for the sweets, you just pick whatever catches your eye from the display by the window. I wasn’t too sure what some of the blondie flavours were, but the person behind the counter was super friendly and ran through them with us so we could decide what to go for.
Curious what treats are on display by the window? Give their Instagram (@theoldyorktea) a scroll.
Here’s What We Ordered
Americano & Cappuccino
Americano for hubby, cappuccino for me. Both were nice and smooth, not acidic at all.
Bacon & Sausage Bap
If you’re wondering what a bap is—it’s a soft, round bread roll commonly used for sandwiches in the UK.
The bread roll was really soft, paired with meaty sausage and bacon. I mean, what could go wrong right? Buttered on the inside and eaten with ketchup. Super satisfying!
Blondie with Biscoff Biscuits & White Chocolate
A blondie is basically a blonde brownie or dessert bar. This one was dense but decadent—really good. It’s quite sweet on its own, but it balances out nicely when you pair it with black tea or coffee.
Rocky Road Slab
So many textures going on here! It was a bit hardened because, well, chocolate in cold weather is basically like keeping it in the fridge. Loaded with marshmallows and wafer biscuits, with a dusting of gold on top. Very chocolatey and very sweet—definitely one to share!
Final Thoughts on The Old York Tea Room
The atmosphere was relaxing with chill music playing in the background. I really loved this place for tea—highly recommended if you’re in York and need a cosy little break!
