Killer Gourmet Burgers (KGB) | How to get to Mid Valley Megamall & The Gardens Mall

After our quick snack of Brickfields Pisang Goreng, we walked back to KL Sentral to get our train tickets to go to Mid Valley Megamall. Wasn’t actually planning to go there to shop or anything like that but because J had worked there for a period of time while on his previous business trips and I had heard his stories and adventures so I thought it would be quite cool to stop by somewhere familiar and put names to places.

How to get to Mid Valley Megamall?

kltransitmap

Unless your hotel is located near any station along the KTM Seremban line, then you just need to hop on the train and get to Mid Valley station that drops you right outside Mid Valley Megamall. Otherwise, from wherever you are staying at, you would have to get to KL Sentral first which is the main interchange for all the respective train lines like KTM, LRT, MRT, Monorail and KLIA Ekspres.

KTM Komuter

At KL Sentral, look for the KTM Komuter ticket counter and buy a ticket from there. It costs RM1.60 for one way.

KTM Komuter

You will have to go through this gate here to board the KTM Komuter train to Mid Valley. Before you enter, just check the train timings on the screens on top because unlike the LRT or MRT where trains would come very frequently, there are fixed timings for KTM ones. Waiting time is about 15-30 minutes in between trains depending if it’s during peak or non-peak hours.

Here are the train schedules for your reference:

Batu Caves – Tampin – Batu Caves (Monday – Friday)
Batu Caves – Tampin – Batu Caves (Saturday – Sunday & Public Holidays)

Each of the above map has two timetables on one page. The one on top is for Batu Caves -> Tampin/Pulau Sebang direction (same as KL Sentral -> Mid Valley) whereas the one below is for the return trip. The time indicated in each box is the estimated arrival time of the train.

Everyone else just walked through the gantries (they weren’t closed anyway) without having any station master checking tickets. It was only when we arrived at Mid Valley station that someone would collect our tickets just before we exited the gantry.

Warning: Be prepared to be packed like sardines on the weekends.

I suggest that you be on standby at the platform much earlier than the expected train arrival time because the queue is crazy and if you don’t queue up early, you probably won’t even get to squeeze in the train and you’ll just waste more time waiting for the next one.

Besides the KTM Komuter train, there is also a free shuttle bus service from Bangsar LRT Station to Mid Valley Megamall that’s available every 30 minutes from 8am to 11pm daily. I’ve not tried the service so I can’t share much about it but you can refer to http://www.midvalley.com.my/locate/by-bus/ for more information. On the same page is also a list of public buses you can take.

I didn’t really take pictures while at Mid Valley Megamall ‘cos it was super crowded and hectic (was there on a Saturday late afternoon) and it was raining very heavily outside too. You can visit their website (http://www.midvalley.com.my) for more information.

It’s just a huge mall (visited mainly by the locals) with AEON & Metrojaya departmental stores, AEON supermarket, AEON Big and lots of familiar brands like Nike, Muji, Zara, Pandora, Forever 21, Charles & Keith and even Love, Bonito (their first flagship store in Malaysia). Plenty of dining options too. Do check out the mall directory on their website and decide if it’s worth coming all the way here to eat and shop.

Choki Choki

Anyway, as usual, I always like to go to supermarkets when I travel to another city. We just never know what new or interesting products there may be. While at AEON BiG, I spotted Choki Choki which was something that I used to love during my primary school days in the 80s. Hadn’t seen them in Singapore for a long long time so I was very glad to find them here.

Choki Choki

I have only tried the original flavour (Chocolate Paste) previously but they also have Chococashew and Chocomilk flavours now.

Choki Choki

Still looks the same as before. Just need to tear off one end and then squeeze the chocolate paste into your mouth. It was like eating Nutella. Yum.

One stick like this used to cost S$0.20 from my neighbourhood shop but I could get one pack of 5 sticks for just RM1.45 (<S$0.50) here. Still so cheap!

After some quick shopping here, we popped over to The Gardens Mall which was connected to Mid Valley Megamall. The Gardens Mall houses more upscale brands like Prada, LV, Gucci and the like (a bit similar to Paragon in Singapore). For more information on the mall directory, go to http://thegardensmall.com.my.

Killer Gourmet Burgers (KGB)

We decided to have dinner at KGB (Killer Gourmet Burgers), a burger bar located on the lower ground floor of The Gardens Mall.

After placing our order and making payment at the counter, we were given a number tag so we just had to find a table and wait for our food to be sent to us.

Here’s a look at the menu:

If you want to top up RM6.30 for a set meal, do note a set meal only includes fries and NO drink. Drinks are always separate.

For starter, we ordered a Kimchi Fries with Bulgogi Beef (RM14.90) to share. A whole basket of fresh cut fries with a generous portion of beef slices, kimchi, melted cheddar cheese, mayonnaise and paprika. Can anything get better than this? The sight of it already made our mouths water. It was a sinful yet comforting treat.

Killer Gourmet Burgers (KGB) - Kimchi Fries with Bulgogi Beef

The fries were not the super crispy type but they weren’t soggy either. The whole fusion combination was just fantastic. The flavour of the kimchi and bulgogi beef really stood out and they somewhat cut the greasiness of the fries and cloyingness of the cheese.

Killer Gourmet Burgers (KGB) Burger Bun

They even stamped their logo on their burger buns, lol.

Killer Gourmet Burgers (KGB) Hot Mess

This was the Hot Mess (RM18.90) with parmesan crusted fried chicken, hot wing skin, egg salad and aioli. Overall taste was good but the chicken was too dry and there wasn’t enough sauce to moisten each bite. I was coughing away when trying to get this down because the breadcrumbs kinda irritated the throat.

I loved the buns that were soft, fluffy and pillowy.

Killer Gourmet Burgers (KGB) Tornado

The Tornado (RM16.90) tasted better. There were grilled beef patty, onion ring, sunny side up and aioli in this. Overall, it was quite moist though the beef patty was thin and not really juicy.

Prices were reasonable after currency exchange. Portion sizes were huge as well, good for the bigger appetites. These burgers might not be the best I had (still prefer Fatboy’s) but I could come back again for the kimchi fries that really rocked.

Besides this outlet, KGB also has three other outlets at Bangsar, TTDI and TREC.
