Mollie Makes JB – The Zen Dessert Cafe You Need to Try

After a satisfying sourdough sandwich brunch at Bluer House Cafe, we strolled 110m (barely two minutes) to Mollie Makes for dessert. I first spotted Mollie Makes in a few videos online. The calm aesthetic and gorgeous desserts sold me instantly. It went straight onto my JB to-try list.

What We Ordered

Mollie Makes JB

Handmade Mochi, Yam Paste, Assam Milk Tea with Cheese Foam (RM15.90)

A little label on top tells you to stir thoroughly. I didn’t. Not at first, anyway.

I sipped it as it came, drawing the straw from bottom to top to taste every layer. The slightly salty cheese foam tasted brilliant. It felt more like eating a dessert than drinking tea.

Then I followed the label and gave it a proper stir. Now every mouthful carried a bit of everything. I highly recommend this one.

Soy Bean Curd with Happy Pistachio Paste (RM11.90)

Think of the classic peanut or black sesame paste, but pistachio. I’d never tried pistachio paste before, and it beat my expectations.

  • Very nutty and not sweet
  • Pistachio bits add extra crunch
  • Soft, wobbly, light soy bean curd

Love pistachio? You’ll love this.

Mollie Soy Bean Curd (RM17.90)

This is the signature bowl. A soy bean curd base carries a pretty spread of toppings:

  • Red bean
  • Grass jelly
  • Barley
  • Rose chestnut pearls (crunchy water chestnut!)
  • Yam
  • Handmade mochi

The toppings taste plain and unsweetened on their own. Pour over the milk and it pulls everything together. Each spoonful brings contrasting textures.

The mochi on top reminded me of the soft mochi I ate at Tamsui Old Street in Taipei. Toasted shredded coconut adds a gentle crunch. Not sweet. Very good.
