Rolina Singapore Traditional Hainanese Curry Puff

Rolina Curry Puff

Rolina used to be a bakery in Ang Mo Kio in the 80s and 90s, if my memory serves me right. I kinda remembered the times when I would pop by the shop after school to grab some afternoon tea time snacks and I didn’t know they actually specialised in curry puffs now until a few years back when I came across their stall at Serangoon Garden Market & Food Centre.

Rolina Curry Puff

I happened to chance upon their second outlet at Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre a while back so decided to try their curry puffs (S$1.40 each).

I liked the look of the curry puff that was shorter in length than most regular ones but rounder and plumper in the middle. What really impressed me was how thin the skin was. This was probably the thinnest skin of a curry puff I ever came across. So crispy on the outside and the filling was so fresh and hot too. Every bite was like a melt-in-the-mouth moment. The puff was beautifully fried and didn’t taste too greasy. The curry filling was robust and packed with a punch. I could also taste the chunks of chicken meat, potatoes and not forgetting that little wedge of hard-boiled egg which was what I would always look out for when digging into a curry puff.

These puffs were just so satisfying. Had to pack another six to go. Even when I brought them home and had to reheat them in the oven, they still tasted heavenly.

Besides curry puffs, Rolina sells sardine puffs too at the same price of $1.40 each. Will be back next time to try that.
