I was inspired to make this dish at home because of a previous bad experience when I ordered a similar dish from a mixed rice stall in my neighbourhood. The hotdogs and french fries were all deep fried in oil – very crispy but the fries were oozing oil with every bite which became quite repulsive.
Even though I chose to bake the hotdogs and french fries in the oven to reduce the grease in my recipe, I wouldn’t say this is a healthy dish because both hotdogs and french fries are processed foods that we shouldn’t consume too much as they are high in saturated fats with little nutritional value. But anyway, I love my junk food once in a while.
For a healthier alternative, try baking your own potato wedges or fries and make chicken meatballs to go with them but use the same sauce to stir fry both together. Hmm, now I have another new idea to try, lol. 🙂
Spicy Sweet Hotdog and French Fries
Ingredients (serves 2)
4 chicken hotdogs, sliced into 1/2 inch pieces
2 cups frozen french fries
2 tbsp tomato ketchup
1 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
1/2 tsp sugar
pinch of salt
2/3 cup water
1. Pre-heat oven to 180 deg C with fan. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and arrange the sliced hotdogs and french fries on it.
2. Bake the hotdogs and fries in the middle of the oven for 15-20 minutes or till golden brown. Set aside.
3. Add all ingredients for the sauce in pan and bring to a boil. Add the hotdogs and allow to simmer till the sauce thickens.
4. Add french fries and stir fry till they are thoroughly coated with the sauce.
