Rive Gauche Patisserie – Go Napoleon!

This has always been one of my favourite patisseries in town. Just a simple “no frills”, “to-go” counter located at Takashimaya’s food hall.

Napoleon ($6 per slice)

Three layers of French style puff pastry with a layer of soft sponge and freshly whipped cream with sliced strawberries and icing sugar on top. Sounds beautiful? The first bite I had of this was truly amazing. The explosion of the different flavours from the savoury taste of the pastry, to the sweet taste of the sugar, cream and strawberries really brought me to dessert paradise. Ingredients may be simple but it is beautifully made as you can see the different layers. Be warned it can get pretty messy when you sink your teeth into this. What I did was to eat the top and then the bottom and it still tasted so good!
