GRUB Bishan | Burger Bistro in a Park

I had blogged about GRUB Bishan a few years back. Since then, I would occasionally order food from them via food delivery apps whenever I’m in the mood for burgers. Their Grub Cheeseburger is one of my all-time favourites.?

When I had to plan a lunch date sometime back, GRUB suddenly just came to mind as J said he was craving for burgers. Perfect choice eh as he hadn’t tried GRUB before.?

GRUB Bishan | Burger Bistro in a Park

Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park is divided into two parts, separated by Marymount Road. GRUB is located on the half that is near to Kong Meng San Temple.

We came on a weekday evening around 6pm+ which I thought was the most ideal timing. It wasn’t hot as the sun had gone down but there was still sufficient daylight so we could enjoy a great view of the lush greenery around. Serene and peaceful surroundings. Quiet and laid-back atmosphere. What’s not to like about this place?

Innovative burger menu

GRUB specialises in burgers – both conventional and creative ones such as Vintage Beef Cheeseburger, Mala Xiang Guo Burger, Mentaiko Mille-Feuille Katsu Burger, Har Cheong Gai Burger and more. Finger food, appetisers, pastas and other mains like Sticky Pork Ribs, Surf & Turf, Miso-Glazed Salmon Steak, etc are also available. For the full menu, please check out their website here.

Mushroom Cheese Potato Croquette $7

We started the meal with breaded potato croquettes stuffed with mushroom and cheese and served with soffritto (i.e. sauteed diced vegetables). When I first bit into one of the croquettes, I could immediately taste an intense earthy and mushroomy flavour, followed by a really nice cheesy note. The croquettes were perfectly seasoned and paired excellently with the mildly sweet soffritto.

Mentaiko Fries $6

Potato fries topped with mentaiko mayo (+ extra for dipping) and nori seaweed. This is another must-order for me because I love anything mentaiko.? The fries were nicely fried to a crisp. Even though we kept most of the fries till the end (after we devoured our burgers) to eat, they didn’t turn soggy which was good.? The mentaiko flavour in the mayo wasn’t super strong but overall the sauce was still piquant and not overly salty.

Grub Double Cheeseburger $19

My ultimate favourite.? Decided to go for the double cheeseburger which came with two 100% freshly minced beef patties (140g each), double slices Monterey Jack cheese and bacon slices.

Every burger order comes with fries. You can also pay extra (+$1) to change the fries to a salad instead.

Moist and juicy with a lovely pinkish centre. The quality of their cheeseburger had been very consistent so far and I had never once been disappointed. The handmade buns were really soft and pillowy. And the double patties gave a very satisfying meaty bite. Go for double!?

Mentaiko Mille-Feuille Katsu Burger $16

My first time trying this burger. Again, we ordered this because it had mentaiko in it, lol. The crispy panko-crusted pork patty consisted of alternating layers of shabu pork with mentaiko cheese and seaweed.

The Mille-Feuille Katsu was really crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Thought the patty would be even better if served on its own (not in a burger format) with fries and side salad. As the panko was dry and coarse, when paired with buns, the texture just didn’t feel right. Like what J said, every mouthful seemed to get stuck in the throat, lol. I wouldn’t mind getting this again though but I would probably get them to swap the buns for more salad or fries.?

Churros $6

Freshly fried churros served with dark chocolate and yuzu white chocolate dips. The churros already came coated with cinnamon sugar. I must say, these churros weren’t the best I had because the inside was a tad too moist. Also, the two dips were really too thick for proper dipping. We had to use a spoon to scoop out the sauce instead. The dark chocolate one was bittersweet while the yuzu white chocolate was saccharine though it did have a hint of citrus. I took a few bites and J finished the rest as he didn’t want to waste.

After the meal, we popped over to MCD (also in the same park) for ice cream cones instead which were more satisfying, lol.

The burgers are still the best

All in all, it was still an enjoyable meal. Super satisfied with my cheeseburger as always – that’s what I come to GRUB for. The delicious fries were pretty addictive too. Grub might not fare well in the desserts department but it didn’t really matter because we both love savouries more than sweets anyway. For anyone looking for a good burger, this is definitely one place to consider. The dining-at-the-park experience at GRUB Bishan is a big bonus for sure. And after all that food, you can just stroll around the beautiful Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park to walk off those calories. And perhaps be able to spot an otter or two too.?

All prices indicated above are before 10% service charge and 7% GST.
